"INCOMING!!!!!" boomed the sergeant " TAKE COVER".  Explosions to my right threw dirt in my direction, lumps of mud bouncing off my helmet. My rifle weighed me down, trying to make my way through the trench to find cover, another explosion to my right slamming me into another solider knocking him to the ground.  I thought of my family back home, my mother and my younger brother, how my mother would be tending to the crops and my brother cleaning out the stables, the smell making his eyes water, he was never the one for cleaning, then I though of my mother and what would happen if I didn't  make it back, after father died mother was never the same, she would start to cry at random moments, even after a few months. I thought how hard it would be for George growing up with no father and a grieving mother. A tear trickled down my face. An explosion brought me back to where I was, the horror of what was happening around me, people I knew and didn't know were dying for no reason, it was hell on earth.
