Who Will I Become?

Chapter Four

I pause and let out my breath in a huff. I made up my decision last night of what I would choose and there's no doubt in my mind that it is the correct choice for me. "Female." I say certainly.

"Good choice, Alex." River snickers and gives me a wink as she gets the needle ready. Soon enough, she is standing beside me holding a syringe filled with a pink liquid. "Hold out your right arm for me please." I respond accordingly and lay it on the table for her. She finds my vein and gently injects the needle. "I will leave the room so you don't feel as awkward but will come and check on you occasionally." River promises as she leaves the room, shutting the door behind her. I close my eyes and wait.

Within minutes I start to feel changes in my body; my hips widen with the growth of my pelvic bone, my waist shrinks inward slightly, my chest starts to expand to create breasts, my buttocks start to grow as well, my hair grows longer and starts to develop in other places as well, genitals start to appear, underarm and leg hair grows slightly (just enough for me to feel that it is there), my stomach remains toned, my legs lengthen and become slightly more muscular, my arms lengthen and slim slightly, and my feet shrink a few sizes. Overall my body becomes much more curvy and "feminine". Soon enough River comes in to check on me. "How're you doing, Alex? Looks like you're pretty much done developing physically. The last thing to change will be your brain mentally, and you won't feel this change. It will happen subconsciously and you'll notice in a few days that you think and act differently than before. You still have fifteen more minutes. I'll be back at the end." She then leaves again leaving me to discover who I have become.

I can't help but touch my new body gently. It's amazing. I can't believe I was scared before. I feel so comfortable with myself. So right. This was definitely the correct choice. I can feel it deep within my bones. I continue to lay in the chair because River never said I could get up, but now I'm anxious. I want to see myself. I want to be able to see who I've become. I want to see who I am. The clock ticks agonizingly slow and I count it down for the last five minutes. Tick, tock, tick, tock, the sound echoes through my head.

Finally, River enters the room. "Alex, how do you feel? Did you make the right choice?" She asks me gently.

"I feel great. It is definitely the right choice. I know it." I beam as I give her a big smile.

"Well, let's go introduce the new you to your friends." River declares. I rise confidently from the chair and start to walk to the door. I can feel a slight change in the the way I walk now; my hips now sway with every step. River follows closely behind me as I walk back down the halls to the gymnasium. When we reach the door, River grabs my hand gently. "Alex, I wish you good luck in your life. I know you're probably worried but your true friends will accept you. Just relax." She then wraps me up in a hug before turning around and disappearing around the corner. I take a deep breath before pushing open the door. As I walk through the entrance, I look around at the grads wandering around the gymnasium. Within a few seconds I spot Gray. Gray chose male! Yes! My new brain screams at me. His shoulders broadened slightly and his hair was cut shorter. His biceps were more toned and muscular along with his stomach and legs.

"Hey Gray!" I shout as I cut across his path and wink at him before heading towards my seat where I can see my waiting parents. I approach them cautiously and they rush over and surround me, all the while pointing out new things about me.

"Gosh, Alex! Look at your hair!" My Mom gushes.

"You look so grown up and mature. A nice, young woman is what you've become." My Dad states. I give them both a hug before turning around to look for Sam. Soon enough I spot Sam as a....male. What!? My mind scrambles furiously trying to see if their was any foreshadowing of this. No. There can't have been. I would've noticed. I assure myself. But still I should have known. Just as Sam glances my way, I duck behind my parents and run to the nearest exit, and within minutes, I am gone and running down the empty streets.
