Chapter 2

Emma's POV

Soon after the devastating, life-changing phone call I started to walk home from Riley's. On my journey home I received another phone call. "Hello?" "Hi Emma it's your doctor again. Since your tests came back positive we need to make an appointment for when we can talk about your new condition." I sighed. "Okay.. Does tomorrow at noon work?" "Of course. I'll see you then. Bye." Beep. The line went dead. Slowly I opened my front door and let myself in. I was bombarded my my lovely little Maltese puppy, Lola and the sweet smell of my mom's cooking. With Lola at my heels I made my way into the kitchen. My face must have shown all the worry an sadness the day has brought because my mom immediately wrapped me in a huge hug. She whispered in my ear, "The doctor called back, didn't he?" I just nodded into her shoulder. She continued, "the tests were positive, I'm guessing." Once again my head bobbed up and down. "Oh baby girl! Come here! I'm so sorry! This never should have happened!" My mom exclaimed, pulling me back into a hug. That's when I lost it. I started completely bawling. All the tears from Riley's house came back and 10 times as much. My mom held me like that for a bit, letting me get all my tears out. But then I pulled back. "But mom, how am I supposed to tell Matthew?" I asked, sniffling. "Tell Matthew what?" Asked Matthew, entering the kitchen.
