That's it she was going to tell him. Even though she knew he could never like her like that, she had to get it off her chest.

Maka was fidgeting with her hands, sitting opposite of Soul on the couch. The words ran through her mind, What should I say? How should I say it? Maybe I shouldn't do it... But I HAVE to do it.

Soul knew something was up, he had known Maka long enough to notice when she was nervous. "What's up Maka?"

His voice knocked Maka out of her thoughts, "What?"

Soul rolled his eyes, "Something's wrong I can tell, what is it?" He knew it wouldn't be that simple, she was stubborn after all, and if she hadn't ranted to him about it yet chances were it was something she was keeping from him.

"What?" She sounded so stupid, repeating the same question like that. "Nothing's wrong, does it seem like something's wrong?" Her tone was defensive, as if acting like Soul had offended her would make him stop asking.

"It's not cool to keep secrets from your weapon Maka, and I mean you're already pretty low on the cool-scale, wouldn't wanna make it worse right?" Of course that was his terrible attempt at getting her to spill, honestly he hadn't meant for it to sound that mean.

Maka's face got red, what a jerk!

Soul could see her hand reaching for the book on the table and instinctively he held up his hands in surrender, he could still feel the last Maka-chop he had gotten for being a dick. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding! But seriously Maka tell meeeeee!"

Maka buried her face in her hands, she could always lie? Come up with a different reason... But Soul knew her too well and she was a terrible liar.

"C'mon Makaaaa, I wanna knooow," He scooted closer to her, pinching her cheeks as if that would will her to speak up.

Makas lips pursed together, her mind was yelling at her to just say it, but her lips wouldn't make it happen.

"Makaaaaaaa," Soul drawled on, he knew if he kept it up long enough she'd crack.

"I LIKE YOU OKAY SOUL, I LIKE LIKE YOU."

Soul blinked for a second before recovering from the sudden yelling. "Oh, cool."

Maka gritted her teeth, really?! Oh cool?! And just like that Soul was victimized by Makas book.

Soul fell back onto the couch, taking a moment to compose himself before reaching up to rub his now pounding head, a bump was forming already, great. One day he'd get used to Maka-chops, but today was not that day.

"Hey Maka."

She ignored him the best she could, glaring at the tv instead of replying.

"I like like you too."

Man okay this idea sounded so much better in my head than it did in writing, but whatever hope it was alright at least 😅
