You know this cool guy act was all just that, an act. It was so much easier to pretend than to be emotional, to be sad.

Soul sat on his bedroom floor, head buried in his hands. It had started about a year ago, for no particular reason it seemed, he was just... Sad.

A knock on his door broke the silence, he had been sitting there for Death knows how long. Then Makas muffled voice made it's way through the cracks of the door.

"Hey Soul I need to borrow your Biology textbook, I forgot to get mine back from Liz and I gotta study." It was silent again when she paused, waiting for a reply but there was nothing.

Soul balled his fists together, hoping to Death she would think he was gone and just leave.

"Must be out..." He heard her mumble, and to his dismay his doorknob began to turn. "Idiot never tells me when he- Oh." Maka cut herself off, surprised to see Soul sitting quietly on the floor.

She took a step towards him worried, "You alright?"

That's all it took, those two stupid words. You alright? And Soul lost it.

The tears fell down his cheeks, he did his best to choke back the sobs trying to escape his mouth.

Maka didn't say a word, she simply walked over to Soul and sat down beside him. Her arm laced around his shoulders, pulling him gently towards her chest into a warm embrace.

They sat there like that for what seemed like hours, the only noise was Souls broken sobs muffled by her shirt, and Makas soothing shushes.

Finally he sniffled, wiping away the wet streaks that ran down his face. He regained some of his composure, letting out a short shaky laugh before speaking up. "Sorry Maka, that wasn't cool."

"Cut the cool crap Soul, what's wrong?"

He looked into Maka's eyes, she was worried, she cared, she could help.

He ran his hand through his hair, trying to figure out exactly what he should tell her.

"I.. I don't really know, it sounds stupid Maka, it really does." He couldn't look at her anymore, he was ashamed, he was worried. Worried that she would laugh, that she wouldn't take him seriously.

"Soul you can talk to me..." Her voice was soft and comforting as she reached up, gently moving his face so he could look at her.

"I just feel, I dunno Maka. I just feel lost, I'm lonely, I feel sad all the time. I'm fucking depressed Maka.." He buried his head into his arms, doing anything to avoid her gaze.

"Soul you're not alone."

He looked up at her, his eyes watering as the stupid tears threatened to fall again.

"You have me, and I'll stay with you until the end. I'll help you through this okay?"

Soul said nothing, simply nodding in reply. He needed someone to help him fix this, he needed Maka.

She placed her hands on his cheeks, pulling his face towards her so she could press a light kiss on his forehead. Maka let go, leaning back so he could see the small smile on her face. "You'll be okay."

Soul leaned forward, his lips pressing gently against hers, "I know, because I have you."
