"M-MATTHIAS!"
Tino shot out of Berwald's room like a rocket and dashed downstairs. Matthias, who was still lounging on the couch, quickly got up. It had been a while since Tino had sounded so panicked, and the sense of urgency in his voice was serious.
"Tino, what's wrong? What happened?"
Tino looked up at Matthias with tears in his eyes.
"Berwald's gone."
Matthias shook his head. It seemed impossible. There really wasn't any reason he could think of that would make Berwald leave.
"Tino, calm down. He's probably off doing stuff with his boss, or something important came up. Okay?"
Matthias placed his hands on Tino's quivering shoulders, which soon tensed up.
"No, Matthias! He really did leave!! Look!"
Tino held out a small note in his hand. Matthias took it and quickly read it. The contents of the note itself were small, written in Berwald's neat handwriting, but the note also seemed hurried as well.
It read, 'Please don't look for me. I'm sorry.'
Matthias's eyebrows furrowed. He was confused.
"Show me his room."
They both ran up the stairs and went inside. Matthias barely went into the Swedish man's room, but he could definitely tell something was wrong.
Tino started to tear up again. Matthias just stood there, stunned.
"Hey guys! We're home!"
Tino wiped away a stray tear on his sleeve.
" Emil and Lukas are home. We should probably tell them about Ber."
Matthias nodded. Tino stayed behind, looking at random details in Berwald's room.
"Berwald, why did you leave? Without even saying goodbye.."
