The day of reckoning comes near as the clock ticks closer to our graves. Everyone who had volunteered and went through the Dark Halos training regime are being assigned their teams and going through initiation. In our groups, those who had graduated will be placed among the top ranks as the higher-ups chose their team members for the expedition. It was all base on knowledge, strategy, awareness, and combat that will keep you alive. I was put into Catherine Jones 2753 group, she was second out of the top six ranks. I was fine with that for I was glad Connor was not in my group. He had Jared Ben 3544, who was the fifth rank. I look among the others that was in my group, at least I can tolerate them more than that dick. A group of people that probably won't fuck up the mission of The Hunt.

The way The Hunt goes is that the leader of the group is given a section of The Underground, a section of land that the monsters erupted from many years ago. All you have to do is go in with your group and make it back alive. Report any and everything that materialized during the operation. Everyone is given a watch that holds a light when needed, a small digital camera for data, a marker that marks your location with the radar that is sent to headquarters, as well as a tranquilizer gun. This will stun the monster for long enough, even though it won't kill it. The leaders will have that gun in their belts, they can try to kill the monster the best they can or stabilize it until everyone gets out of harms way. Along with a staff that comes with a wire at the end, it can change into any weapon you want it to be or need at that exact moment. Some people panic and make them into regular guns such as Revolvers or Glocks. The only downfall is that there's no bullets, that's what got to Paul White 2940 before he was killed.

There are different sections of The Underground, my group will be going to where the Massacre of the Damned took place among the surface. It was where ground zero originated, located closer to the center of the city than closer to the coast. I didn't say a word as I nod and went to get ready. I got my gear that I fit into a little bag that is good for trips. I put my watch that I will put on until the time is ready, a couple of snacks that I hid from Connor, water bottles as well as my tranquilizer gun. Even though the watch has it built in I don't really trust the watch that well, it could glitch on me when I need it the most. Hopefully I grabbed the right one, they look like the actual ones that has no bullets. Lastly I placed the folded staff into my bag as I stop to look. It gives off a soft glow before I decide to zip up the bag and heave it onto my shoulders. The reason we had no bullets was that we were a humble society. If bullets can be sold we can't trace where they would be used or who used upon. That was how society was before that day when it was needed most. The formulas and chemical compounds to make it have been lost or locked away in the Archives. Some say it went Underground with the rest of the incubation bodies, still in the pocket of the original creator. When the head of government opened the Archives up for the public to view the Chronicles, they were gone. No trace was left behind that they existed.

I got a knock on my door as I go and press my ear to it. The place of air and sea is known as The Beaufort Atoll, it was originally a ship before everything fell apart. A piece of sea that has a protective barrier of coral in the middle of nowhere. Maps with the original names of the surrounding lands were destroyed, those that were salvaged were within the Archives. The last recollection based on location was a place called the Maldives. Engineers had to build housing underneath the ocean's surface as it was discovered the creatures couldn't swim. An Underwater society was mode to connect with the Air Covenant above called the Rising Moonlight. The structure is a large white structure that brings the people from the ocean up into the air. Connecting it to the railway system that connects it to the nearby lands. At first people speculate the monsters would follow it back, that was before it was found out about their fear of the deep.

In the ocean, we don't have windows so I can't see who it was without opening the door. The main windows are within the training facility that displays the ocean floor, or the closest thing to one. I listen to the sounds that are behind the door, the echos of feet by passing people and that one that remained at my door. The rooms are like your own personal cave where you sleep in a nice cool environment. The design were based off of underwater caverns that helped with the foundation of the establishment. This is where the Dark Halos train and live until times like now. The rest of the population live up above with plenty of resources. Heat barely comes in by being so close to the ocean floor, blankets are your best friend.
