He came even closer than he already was, his body pressing on mine. I half turned, so that half of my side was facing him only, and glanced at Rosy to see how she was coping with all of this.
She was biting her nails on the hand I wasn't gripping and had an intense look on her face. As our eyes met, she searched my face as if she was trying to tell me something. Praying he wouldn't do or say anything stupid in front of Rosy, I turned my face back to him and repeated my question,
"What is it that you want me to do?"
"I want you to give me some money, and after that -," He looked at Rosy for a second then leaned in towards my ear," after that, I want you and me to have a little fun."
" I'll do anything you want but first I want Mazy back."
" You want your little sister? Sure you can have her but first I want what i said."
"No ways, I'm not doing anything without Mazy, please, I promise I'll do anything, but I need Mazy, please don't take her away from me I'll do anything."
"...and if you don't?"
" That won't happen, I promise!"
He looked at me for a very long time, his eyes roaming every detail of my face,
"Very well then, you and your sister stay here for 15 minutes, and then go to your room and Mazy will be there, but if you come earlier than that, then I'm afraid you won't see her until after the deal."
He replied after a very long time, I soaked in what he said, glanced at my watch (12:15am) and nodded. Then he turned away and without a backwards glance, he disappeared somewhere in the darkness ahead.
Rosie burst into tears, as I hugged her close to me. I could cope with all of this happening to me but why did Rosy have to witness all of this? Why couldn't my sisters get the proper childhood they deserve, with rainbows and smiles and laughter's all day long? Why are all the bad things happening at once?
"Don't cry baby, Its gonna be okay, you'll see, everything is gonna be fine!" I tried to reassure her.
"I-I-I- t-thought he was gonna t-t-take you away from me a-as well." She hiccuped as I wiped her tears away.
"No body will ever take me away from you, I wont let that happen!"
"You p-promise?"
"I promise."
"Cross your heart?"
"Cross my heart and hope to die, stick a needle in my eye."
She smiled slightly then hugged me tight,
"Can we go get Mazy?" She asked.
I glanced at my watch, 12:30am.
"Yes, yes we can, come on lets go."
I replied pulling her towards the darkness ahead. The short journey towards the hotel was silence.
Lots of thoughts kept running through my head and that voice was back, whispering negative thoughts, making my head hurt.
As we climbed the spiral stairs, I caught my reflection in a mirror hung up at the side. My long curly brown hair was loose framing my pale face. My green eyes had circles underneath them and my fringe was all over the place. This is no time to think about personal appearance, Laila, get a grip! I told myself as I carried on climbing the stairs.
As we got closer to our room door we slowed down until we were standing right outside it. I felt Rosy's hand slip into mine, Then I took a deep breath and went inside.
