Heading back

It's been almost a year since I published my story. I've gotten a lot of good feed back. I publish bits and pieces about cases I've done. I don't use specific details. I rearrange and change everything to make a new story. I've been promoted to Sargent now. My publisher laughed a bit when she found out. To actually quote what she said, well it goes like this, "well it looks like you really are Sargent Bucky Barnes." I gave her a small smile. I was okay being a beat cop. I was okay doing the dirty work. I didn't want a promotion but I got one and when I got home I cried. It's been almost a year since I left the comic book world. I don't care what you tell me. It was all real. I fell in love with Tony Stark and one way or another I was going to go back.

It was November 6th when someone would help me do just that. I told you once that the weirdest thing in our world was a UFO, but now I'm here to tell you it was the man who showed up on my door step. His name was Carter. That's all he told me, but I would come to call him my friend.

I opened my apartment door and in walked Carter. He walked around then sat down for a second and stood up instantly when I pointed my gun at him, "boy you sure are stupid to break in to a law enforcement officers home." I sat down with my weapon still pointed at him, "why the hell are you here?" He sat down, "I'm going to sound crazy, but I can help you get back to him. To your family. To Tony." I said, "you're right that does sound crazy." He got up and started to pace back and forth, "I'm not crazy and I can offer you a chance. Your stories aren't story's." I stood up and poorer myself a drink, "That life was created from a dream I had. That life is just make believe. It was a dream." He shook his head then walked up to me, "my name is Carter. In that world you would of known me as Nightmare. I woke up here and I don't know how. I didn't know how till now. Your dream. I can turn it to a reality and I can make it permanent. I have my powers here. I can send you there," he pulled out this pen, "you draw yourself into a comic and then you'll be there. Write out your life and this time next week it will become permanent." I took a sip off my drink, "and what do you want in return?" He looked down, "I want to do good. Be good. I want to go home and stop my sister. When Jamie Buchanan Barnes took the name Star, well my sister took over as Nitrous. She turned the city you protected into a nightmare. My name is Carter. I want to be a hero. I always have been." I put my gun away, "Carter, if we do this then how long does it take to activate and will I have my powers?" He nodded then looked, "just, please. Keep your promise." I nodded then he laid down on the couch, "do you mind?" I shook my head, "no. I'll get you a blanket." He smiled at me, "Ms. Stark, thank you for being so kind to your enemy." I nodded my head then went and got a blanket.

The next morning I found my sketch book filled with a mapped out life. I drew in sections where I helped turn Nightmare into a hero. When I walked out of my room I saw Carter making breakfast. "You were in your room a long time. I thought I'd make and bring you something to eat," I gave him a confused look then he continued, "you've been in there for a week. Tonight is the last night on the week I told you about. You've got 14 hours till everything is finalized. Are you hungry?" I took a step back. I couldn't believe that I'd been in my room for a week drawing. "Can I see?" I shook my head, "no. I wrote your life out. No one should see or have that power. Carter it's been a pleasure. I hope that this is enough." He smiled then served me a plate. We went and sat on the couch and tuned into a movie marathon. We watched happy, heroic movies. I wasn't about to show him anything that could hurt Tony incase he changed his mind.

It was 11:59 when we both looked at each other. The next thing I know I'm in a park. Carter smiled at me, "welcome home Star." I smiled then hugged him, "thank you." He laughed a bit, "never thought I'd heard that from you. You have all your powers back. And please, before you leave, please keep your promise. I want to be a hero, but first I need to slay my demons." I nodded then he said good bye and disappeared. I looked around then headed to the sky and started flying. By the looks of things I was in Central Park. It was less than a five minute flight to Manhattan and back to what is now Avengers Tower. As I flew up to the tower I could see Tony dancing with a girl about 16 or so in age. As I landed on the balcony all the censors went off. I turned to the city as Tony walked out and activated the repulser. "You've got 3 seconds to turn around and tell me who you are." I turned around and smiled at Tony, "hello." He got a little angry, "my wife died. Who the hell are you."
