Bacon Pancakes

Beep beep beep!

I groaned, rolling to the other side of my bed to slam the snooze button. "Five more minutes..." I muttered, letting my arm fall loosely and hang off the bed.

"Finn! Breakfast's ready!" I immediately heard Jake's voice shout from downstairs. "Nuts, he must've heard the alarm clock go off," I thought disappointedly. I sighed and pushed myself up to sit. "I'll be there in a minute!" I shouted back, swinging my legs over the bed.

I yawned and scratched my back as I made my way downstairs in my red footsies. Don't judge me. As I got closer to the kitchen, the scent of grease and butter grew stronger. Bacon pancakes.

Sure enough, when I reached the bottom of the stairs, I saw my best friend, and brother, flipping golden pancakes with bits of crispy bacon sticking out in every direction.

I yawned once more to catch Jake's attention and sat down in the red, long chair around the table. You know, the one's you see in the corner of restaurants? Anyways, I rested my head on the table and waited for breakfast.

"Mornin', Finn," Jake greeted, serving the pancakes on two plates. "Mornin'," I replied, trying not to sound too glum. But Jake turned around with both of the plates in his hands, frowning.

"What's wrong, buddy?" He asked, setting the plates on the table and sliding into the seat right besides me.

I shrugged and picked up the fork that was already resting on the table. "Nothing," I uttered. "I guess..." That was when I felt Jake's hand on my right shoulder. My eyes gazed up at his weary smile. "Hey, if it's about high school, remember that I'll be there too," he assured as I started to eat my breakfast. "You'll be fine."

I sighed and swallowed my food, setting the fork down. "Yeah, right," I responded, sliding out from the other side. "I-I'm gonna get dressed." And I quickly ran back upstairs. Halfway up, I could still hear Jake sighing. "Finn..."

Grimacing all the way to our room, I rummaged through our closet to find a pair of blue shorts and a royal blue T-shirt. After throwing it all on, I was about to rush back downstairs until I had stopped in my tracks. I turned around and stared at our bed table. On it was my white hat, the one I had since I was 12. It went down to cover my neck and it had two small ears on the top.

"I'm getting too old for this," I told myself, hoping it would get my mind off of all of the memories that swept back to me. But in the end, I darted down the stairs with the hat secured on my head.

Jake laughed when he saw me, causing my face to grow red. "W-what's so funny?" I questioned, placing both of my hands on my hat. He just smiled and turned away from me. "Nothing," he lied. I glared and grabbed my green backpack that was besides the doorway as we headed for school.

We crossed the green field our ginormous tree house was located in and walked down to the City of Ooo. That was where Kandy High was located. And when we arrived in front of the school, my heart raced the fastest it ever had.
