Beware the living

Chapter 4 "Hypnosis"

"Ok Kate you take isle one to four those are the only ones with food and water, Jenna you take the offices and I'll go into the storage room.
Let's hope this super market has allot for us to bring home.
You know the drill, if you get stuck scream." Kate and I nod and we all split up to search our assigned areas.

The office looks abandoned but I keep my gun close to me just in case.
I have the feeling that I'm being watched. 
I keep turning around and look twice at every shadow.
All the offices seem to be raided, the furniture is broken and there's paperwork everywhere.
Most of the plants these people had in their workspace are dead witch gives an extra creepy vibe to these rooms.
I make my way towards the last office there's a lock on the door, no one seems to have tempered with it yet. There must be something behind this door that's worthy bringing back to the group.
There's farious ways I can break this door open. I can try to kick it in but the noise would maybe let Kate and Cindy think I got attacked. 
I remember seeing a strong table, I could rip of one it's legs and try to hit the latch off.
Or I could shoot the lock off but that may also alert Kate and Cindy.
Going with the table plan. I make my way back to the office next to the locked one.

The small hall really makes me feel trapped but I try to ignore that feeling.
I turn into the room when suddenly the door closes behind me.
I freeze... No no no no you can't freeze not right now, clear your mind start moving, you are going to get yourself KILLED!!  The voice in my head gets louder and louder as it repeats itself sounding truly dissapointed about me. I try to clear my head think of something nice or what could've caused the door to shut.
It must have been the wind calm down take a deep breath.
I calm myself and breath. Before I know it my muscles relax and I can move again.
The room is dark I can't see anything and the thaught of something beeing in here with me makes my skin crawl. 

I take my flashlight and hold it above my gun. Luckly this is a small office and if there was anything I would've seen it by now. I open the door and let the light in again.Putting a chair infront of it so it wont close itself again.
The table was square. I flipped it to see if I could maybe unscrew the legs. I was lucky god I love Ikea furniture. I take my screw driver and detach the leg from the table.
It's not as heavy as I anticipated it to be. 
I take the leg to break off the lock. Here we go. I take a deep breath and smash the leg to the latch.
The smash echoes through the hall but it wasn't loud enough to alert Kate or Cindy.
I hit the Latch again and again. One last hit and the latch falls off.

Proud of myself I start smiling at the broken door. I swing the leg on last time right against the keyhole to break open the door. A loud bang when the door swings open makes me shiver.
I hear something running around in the office. When I try to concentrate on the sound I hear something running towards me from the right. Something white flashes infront of my eye.

Before I even know what happend, I get launched against a wall and my vision shakes from sharp to blur.
I try to stand up and focus on the shapes I see in front of me.
It's kate... my vision becomes sharp again and I see she's fighting of an Infected.
I try to find my gun between the rublle but I don't see it. I pick up the leg I used to break the latch and charge myself at the monster.
Hitting it right on his head, the monster turns it's head to me and screams showing it's third row of razor sharp teeth. It swings an arm at me and I get slammed to the wall.
My head is throbing and Kate is pinned down by the Infected.
Kate tries to wiggle her way out but the Infected has her arms locked on the ground. It's nails are pinned in the ground like fish hooks on a tent.
Then Kate completly stops moving. She is breathing but she's not fighting or screaming.

I take a deep breath and slide towards Kate's gun, I grab it, aim and fire.
It hit the monster in it's neck, it screams in pain and then flees through the ceiling.
Kate still isn't moving. I run towards her.

Her eyes are big and they don't follow my movement. I try shaking her and yelling "PLease Kate wake up you need to wake up please!"
I hear something coming from the cornor, I take Kate's rifle and aim at the sound.

"Woah woah calm down Jenna It's me" When I recognize Cindy's voice I lower the rifle and fully concentrate on Kate again.
Cindy kneels down next to Kate and looks at me." Jenna what happend!"
"I got attacked,she pushed me out of the way and the infected overpowerd her. It just held her pinned to the ground and looked at her. I tried to distract it but it knocked me against the wall.
Then Kate just stopped moving as if the monster hypnotised her."
"So they can hypnotise us now?"
I shake my head, I can't believe what I just said either but it is what I saw.
Kate isn't the type that would just give up and her not responding to us makes it even more clear she under some kind of hypnosis.
Cindy and I try waking her, we keep talking to her asking to snap out of it and waving our hands infront of her eyes. After what seemed to be an enternity she finally blinks at starts moving.
Kate grabs me by my jacket and pulls me in for a hug," Thank you,thank you" She keeps repeating it while she softly sobs. What did she see?
I grab her by her shoulders and look at her, "Your alive,I'm so glad you are ok"
She looks around and seems really confused.

"Kate are you ok?" Cindy asks while grabbing Kate's shoulder.
Kate flinches from the touch and looks at Cindy. She shakes her head and answers softly, " Yes, I'm ok we should move on."

We decide to check out the room I unlocked together.

There's a mounted shotgun on the wall. My dad used to have one of those it's an double barrel. Might come in handy I take it and put it in my bag. For the rest we find some ammo for the shotgun and medicine.
After raiding the boss's office we decide to go to the upper level and search the clothing stores.
I wonder what Kate saw that made her freak like that. Kate isn't scared of anything she has saved my ass multiple times. I've never seen her back down from a challenge but she looks so vulnerable and scared right now.
What could she have possible seen, it seems like it took the fire, that gives her the strenght of survival, out of her.
