The tigers tail flicked back and forth in anticipation of the upcoming carnage. His high perch upon the rocky ledge gave him a perfect view of the one poor human who was stupid enough to wander out alone and was now about to pay the price with her life. Usually the humans would travel in packs so they would stand a better chance of surviving when they encountered demons. Now this human would be destroyed at the hands of these horrible monsters.
The demons, all nearly identical to each other with gray sickly looking skin and burning red eyes, closed in on the foolish mortal. Then something the tiger had not expected happened. Twin blades appeared in the woman's hands so swiftly one would have missed it had they blinked. Though the demons hissed in surprise they did not stall their advance. Just as one reached out its claw tipped hand to ensnare the girl it fell to the ground lifeless with its head cleanly severed from its body. She ducked and twirled in a lethal dance until all monsters had either perished or ran back into the shadows where they could travel back to their home of nightmares and eternal darkness.
"Ebony!" A shout rang through the night, shattering the calming silence in the absence of the demons. A small group of humans surrounded her, praising whatever miracle had kept her alive.
Watching the humans disappear into the darkness of the forest the tiger stood and stretched. Ebony, he mused over the strange human. Perhaps they aren't all as pathetic as once thought to be. At least he now knew that they knew demons could only be killed by decapitation. And what a fitting name for that human, he thought, considering her mane was so black it appeared almost blue.
This was information his clan would find most interesting. Perhaps they could ally with the humans after all. Hopefully there were more humans like Ebony who would fight the demons
rather than hide and merely defend themselves when necessary.
