"Whenever I get afraid, I know it will only be temporary. Because no matter where I am, I know you will always be by my side. Just like old times."
--- --- --- --- ---
It was a quiet night; one can even say that tonight will be a peaceful one when suddenly a bright light flashed outside.
"1..2..3..4..5..6..7..8.." Quiet counting sounded from the bed, almost hopeful that it won't be followed by - a loud thunder boomed loudly making the occupant of the bed jump with fright.
"Should have slept earlier if I know that there would be a thunderstorm tonight," Elly grumbled as she tried to cocoon herself in her bed sheet. She gasped when another thunder sounded loudly. It seems like her fortress of pillows over her head can't seem to even minimize the dreadful sound of the deafening thunder.
Another lightning flashed and this time, the loud grumble shortly followed after. Moments later, loud pellets of rain penetrated the roof piercingly making the occupant of the bed whimper in fright.
"Really should have slept earlier," the girl again said wistfully trying to calm herself to be able to succumb to sleep and not to mind what is happening outside at this moment.
"You really should." a voice replied through the rain stopping Elly's line of thoughts. A few seconds passed then Elly suddenly throw her bed covers aside and lunged towards her mother sitting on her bed.
Her mother chuckled hugging back and smoothing her daughter's bed locks. "Would you mind moving over?"
With one swift movement Elly made room enough for her mother to scoot over into her bed and the latter tucking them both with the covers. When both of them are comfortable on her small bed, Elly wrapped her mother's arms around her and tuck in her face in her mother's neck, breathing in deeply her scent. She smiled and sighed, closing her eyes soon after.
Still smoothing her daughter's hair, Elizabeth looks down towards her daughter nestled within the bedcovers. "You okay there?"
Only a mumbled reply sounded from her daughter and she felt the latter's arms tightened around her. She chuckled and hummed a song softly.
"Thank you, mom."
Elizabeth only smiled in return and slowly closed her eyes. Knowing her daughter's fear of the storm, she always makes sure to sleep with her whenever it usually came, to calm her down. She chuckled after thinking about it.
"Works every time."
