As I stated earlier, if you have a misdemeanor, youre alright; life will move on. Catch a felony and get convicted...game over. You can make it out of the worst prison in America and have an awesome survival story, but that's about it. Your job options are now LIMITED. It's not enough to do 13 years incarcerated, now you have to wait another 7 years before you're aloud another shot at normalcy. Yes there are jobs available, but the types of jobs make you feel like you're back in prison: dishwashing, warehousing, kitchen, janitor. There's nothing wrong with these types of jobs, but advancement is non existent and some felons want more than that. The only legit option for felons is to start their own businesses, and even that's hard because banks don't like giving money to criminals...who would've thunk!
Having a felony is very detrimental to your life. Yes it's wrong you committed a crime, but if you successfully complete your sentence (rather incarcerated or paroled), your record should be sealed and only law enforcement should be able to see it. I write this because I feel like there's a pretty big chunk of civilians that are getting ignored over a mistake they made years ago. If you agree that some felons deserve a chance at a normal civilian life lets do what we can to give them a real second Chance. Follow me and stay posted on what I'll be doing to help this ignored topic.
