Chapter two: More than a friend

Leah Maraine was strolling along the concrete pathway. The sun was setting along the horizon. The trees were covering the view of the sun setting and the sky was flooded with pink. She could hear the distant shouts of laughter behind her at the carnival.

The evening air was cold and windy. Leah shivered and hugged herself. She was thinking about her day at the carnival where she met Mark. He seems like a decent guy, she thought.

She heard a shout of anger ahead of her. She thought herself lucky that everyone was at the carnival. She came to an old, small house with rusty gates beside it. It had a small garge, fit for one car. The garage had a rusty worn out car. It was old fashioned and cheap.

Leah heard another shout coming from the house. Leah sighed. Why do they always fight?

Leah slowly walked up to the security door and opened it. It created a loud creek.

"Fine!" a voice of a man yelled.

"You're shitting me!" yelled a girl.

Leah walked into the living room trying to avoid any noise. Her father and her sister were fighting again. Her father looked depressed and he was shaking in a corner. Her sister however was holding her father's favourite book in the air as though dropping it with force and destroying it.

"Don't even think about it Jay!" Leah snarled, launching at her and grabbing the book. She was too quick for her and she snatched it out of Jay's hands.

She scowled and raised her hand, about to slap Leah in the face. Before she did anything Leah shoved her onto the couch as hard as Leah could manage. Leah placed the book gently on the table. She turned to her father and went to him, comforting him.

She turned back to Jay who was panting.

"Do you have to give our father such a hard time? Do you know how much he has to work to keep us both alive so we can go to school?" Leah hissed.

"I quit school," said Jay casually.

"You what?" Lead said, now shaking with anger.

"I quit school," she said again. "Schools for people who don't have a life-"

"Now that you're out of school, you don't have a life!" Leah shouted at her. Leah couldn't blame her father for fighting with her.

"Besides, I'm moving in with Lewis." Lewis was Jay's good for nothing boyfriend. Jay might be totally in love with him but he's a cheating scum. Leah once saw him madly making out with someone else, but she decided to keep it to herself.

"You're not going anywhere. You're sixteen, and you have the brain and the selfishness of a three year old." A vibration came out of Jay's pocket. Leah realised at once that it was Jay's phone. Leah quickly moved and snatched it out of Jay's hand.

"Give that back," she yelled.

I looked at the screen and saw that Jay had one new message. I pressed it and read the text, that was from Lewis. 'Waiting for you babe. have you packed? i'm at my place.'

Enraged with anger, Leah typed back. 'you're not going anywhere with my sister, you selfish bitch. You stay away and out of our lives.'

I sent it to him and threw the phone at the wall. It broke into pieces, beyond reparable.

"What the f-" Leah turned away, not wanting to hear. ", was that for?! Do you know how much that cost?"

Leah slowly turned, pointing at the now broken phone on the floor. "That was my money, I had to spend on buying that piece of shit. Since it's my money, I can do what I want with it. And you said that you were moving in with that idiot. You don't have any money on you. You won't last a day if you had a job. You'll go nowhere in your life. You'll be stuck with that loser and believe it or not, he'll leave you. You don't go to school anymore and now your as dumb as crap. I suggest you turn your bloody life around.
