Chapter three: Sight of The Black Moon
"Mark.." Leah said again. "The moon's gone black."
I opened my eyes. All around me was nearly pitch black. Only a little bit of light was showing. I quickly looked at the moon. The sight of it draws me in. The full moon was now black but a white outline of it could be seen. I couldn't stop staring at it. It was ghostly and magnificent in a way. It was also horrific, while I was staring at it, I felt like I was staring into a hole at the end of my life. It was a terrible feeling.
Then suddenly I heard a high pitched scream that erupted from Leah. I tore my eyes away from the moon and to Leah. Leah was clutching her chest and was shaking madly. She was still screaming. I had no idea what to do. Leah was writhing in agony. I thought maybe it had something to do with the black moon. I had no idea why I wasn't feeling any of this. I was staring at the black moon as well. Leah was jerking and twisting on the soft earth. She yelled again and again and more and more.
I looked up at the black moon again. As I was looking at it, I saw a speck of light appear in the centre of the moon. It gew bigger and bigger and it was descending upon me like a meteorite. I was frozen on the spot, unable to move.
A bright light illuminated everything around me and I heard a loud bang. I closed my eyes, and opened them again almost instantly. Leah was still shrieking. In front of me, just below my feet, was a small meteorite. It was glowing green and it burst opened. I knelt and looked closer at it. Inside, there seemed to be a small shiny object. I saw a circle pendant and it was around a shiny silver string.
Somehow I knew I had to put it on, around my neck and I did so, placing it around my neck. It hanged there in the middle of my chest and suddenly it shone so bright that I closed my eyes and backed away. I swear, probably the whole world would've seen it shine. That was how bright it was. I slowly drifted away, out of this world. I felt like falling. That all was black. Leah's screaming came to a halt.
One minute ago: Somewhere in Texas. Exact location, unknown.
Richard Belldigger was sitting in his small wooden house, relaxing on his old worn out couch. He was staring into empty space, just thinking that one hundred years has passed. He was fiddling his circle pendant.
He was dreading the moment since a hundred years ago, he had found out what his life basically had to be. He sighed. Suddenly his pendant shone throughout the whole house. He quickly snapped his eyes shut. The light illuminated the house. Then he knew that the time has come.
Somewhere deep in a forest of Arizona.
George Mcmallen leaped a huge distance. He growled, sniffing the air. He has been searching for his protector since eighty years ago when he left him stranded. He roared and snarled. He heard a snap of a branch and immediately turned around. He soon realised that it was just a fluttering of wings belonging to a bird.
All of a sudden, the full moon that was illuminating the forest, slowly darkened the forest floors. George had a thought that maybe that black moon has showed itself again.
He howled long and hard, so that someone might hear him. He was howling not because the moon has appeared but for his protector to come and to protect him during this minute of hell.
One minute later:
Someone shook me, their hands on my shoulder, shaking them greatly.
"Mark! Mark!" yelled someone. "Wake up!"
My eyes slowly flickered open. I found myself staring into the face of my mother. She looked alarm, and anxious.
"You okay? What happened baby?" she questioned.
"I.." I thought for a moment. If I did tell her the truth she wouldn't believe me. And somehow, it just felt right not to tell her. But maybe I could ask her if she saw a black moon. But I have to word it carefully. "Mum, did you see the full moon darken or maybe turn black?"
"Oh, no," she said. "Nothing happened really. It's just at about 11:11 p.m, I think, I heard someone screaming. Must be your friend. Then we ran and found both of you here."
That's right, I thought. There must be more people here. I glanced behind her. Jack and Dru were standing, side by side, looking worried.
"Oh," my mother turned back. "They're here as well because they were the only other people who heard the scream." My thoughts suddenly drifted to Leah. I jerked my head side to side to see where she was.
"Leah," I said. "Where, where is she?"
"Your friend?" Jack called out from behind. "Well, Dru and I walked her home. She said she needed to back soon. She was very freaked out though."
"What did she say when she got home?" I asked.
"Not much, really," Dru muttered. "She said thank you, then she walked in the house and we heard a female's voice screaming at the top of her lungs, saying 'Why the-" she stopped and looked at Jack for help.
"Oh right," Jack nodded. "You're only nine. 'Why the fuck did you lock me in?'"-Dru quickly covered her ears with her hands-"And you know, much more swearing comes in. We quickly left afterwards."
"Okay guys, let's pack it up. Mark, you need some sleep. Come on. Dru, you better get back to your mum quick." My mum, ushering Dru on.
