Flashback...."Hey baby," Chris says as he holds out his hand. "I want you to meet Mack. He's the sheriff. He's also my best friend." I say hi and Mack shakes my hand. "Nice to meet you Sarah. I've heard so much about you. All good things of course." He says giving me the kindest smile.
"Chris why didn't you introduce us sooner?" I ask in his ear. "Later," he whispers back. "So, Mack, anything interesting happen today?" Chris asks him.
Mack looks at Chris dully. "What do you think? Nothing interesting ever happens in this tiny town." We all laugh because we know that it's very true.
"I have a question for you Mack," I say and Chris gives me a look and Mack looks genuinely curious. "What exactly about this wonderfully insane nut ball attracted you to him?" I say with a grin, side-hugging Chris and I can feel him relaxing as he laughs.
"Well Sarah, in this tiny town, everyone knows each other by someone's parents or their parents parents. My parents and Chris's parents were all best friends the first day that they met in Elementary school. When they graduated, they remained friends and Chris and I were even born on the same day. We've been practically joined at the hip ever since. Now that he's met you, the whole cycle might start all over because he's never brought a girl over to meet me before." Mack finishes and they both start laughing. It's probably an inside joke or something.
"Maybe, if Chris ever decides to put a ring on my finger." I say with a grin. Chris tenses up beside me. "But who knows!" I finish with a glint in my eye. 'I've planted the seed. All I can do is water it every so often.'

All the way back to the house, the car is silent. Chris doesn't look mad, but he doesn't look happy either.
I get out of the car and walk towards the door. I don't hear Chris's footsteps behind me, so I turn around. He's sitting the car and staring at me. 'Don't worry, he's just looking. He could be thinking...Thinking about how he's going to inflict pain on me tonight.'
I turn back around and go inside and head to the bedroom. 'I really need to get out of these stuffy clothes.'
I'm almost completely changed by the time that I hear the front door open and close. "Sarah! Where are you? i really need to talk to you about this whole marriage thing!" I yell from the bedroom, "I'm in here!" I prepare myself for what is about to come which is surely a big fight.
"Sarah," Chris looks at me and he looks broken. "Do you really want to marry me? Or were you just saying that so Mack would leave you alone about our parents and then us carrying on that legacy?"
"I don't know. I mean, we can't just date forever. Your parents hated it when we moved in together without being married in the first place. What if I got pregnant and we weren't married yet. I don't even want to think about what they would say, especially your mother." Chris walks over to where I stand and my heart stops for a moment. What is he about to do?
When I flinch when he raises his hand, his face drops. "Please don't be scared of me. I'm not going to hurt you." He's being so sweet and tender, but I know that this facade will definitely not last very long. "So do you really want to? If that's what you really want in the long run, I will go to the jewelry store right now and I will buy the prettiest thing that I see in there. We'll go to the city and find a nice restaurant and I will propose to you in the most romantic way that I can find possible. What do you say?"
I pause for a moment thinking about what I really want for myself. "I think it would be great that we would be married. Are you ready for this Chris? If you feel like you are being pressured into anything just tell me. You are totally worth the wait." Chris has tears in his eyes and I feel like my tears are about to spill over.
"I will be back as soon as I find the most perfect thing in that store for my special girl. Get yourself all dolled up! We are going to the nicest restaurant we can find in the city!"
Chris kisses me on my cheek, grabs his jacket, and I hear the front door close not soon after.
I immediately run to my closet and find the prettiest dress that I own and a pair of heels. I need a shower so I hurry up and jump in before I believe that Chris is back. I want to surprise him.
I get out and quickly blow dry my hair and brushing out all of the tangles. I decide to put my hair into large loose curls. I don't want to look so dramatic that he barely recognizes me, but I have noticed what me key he says that he likes on me so I pick that and match it to my outfit.
When I finish and look in the mirror, I almost don't even recognize the woman in the mirror. Not because of the makeup, but because this woman looks truly happy. A happy that just shouts: "I'm in love and I am not afraid to shout is from the top of the Empire State Building.
The car horn honks and that is my queue to hurry up. I pick out a clutch and coat and slip on the heels. I practically run out the door.
'Tomorrow morning I will be engaged to be married to Chris. Which Chris will I even have tomorrow? This cute Chris who is vulnerable and caring or the hard hearted cruel Chris that I have become accustomed to?'
