Maya's POV

The light blinded me for a few seconds before I snapped my eyes shut again. I gave it around half a minute before I reopened them.
I was in a place I didn't recognise. There was a ceiling fan above me which wasn't on and I was laying on a comfortable brown couch, with my legs, arms and head propped up on pillows. There was also a white and pink quilt draped over me.
Where was I? What is this place? I'd never seen anything like it.
Looking around the room, it looked like a wonderful family home. But why would I be in a family home? Why would anyone want me in a family home?
I made an attempt to climb off of the couch, but it was then when I found out all my muscles ached like crazy.
"Hello?" I croaked out. My voice harsh and scratchy.
There was no reply. Maybe they couldn't hear me. Why was I here? What happened which led to this? It was all a huge mystery. I was becoming lost in my thoughts, when I heard the door in front of me click open. Through it came the little bundle of joy known as Riley, bouncing around as usual.
"Dad! Dad! When can we give them to her??"
Who's her? Was it me? Give me what?
Mr Matthews stumbled through the door with at least 8 bags in his hands, and placed them down onto the floor behind the couch.
Noticing my eyes were open, Mr Matthews informed Riley I was awake.
I heard footsteps running towards me, and almost as quickly as you can say Riley, she was there, in front of me, kneeling next to the couch.
"Are you okay peaches?" Riley asked. Peaches? Is that name going to stick? Okay then I could live with that.
"W-w-what h-happened" I studied the room around me. "W-where am I-I?" Riley looked up at her father and back down at me.
"You're at my house. Don't you remember anything that happened Maya?"
"N-n-no." It hurt my throat to speak. Why was that? I tried to sit up, but every inch of my body was sore and aching, I had to remain laying down.
Riley stood up and walked off to an area out of my eyesight.
"R-riles? W-where'd you g-go?" I didn't want her to leave my side. It was comforting.
"I'm just in the kitchen. I'll be back in a minute peaches."
Several minutes passed until Riles came back over with two mugs holding a strange brown liquid substance with cream and marshmallows.
"W-what's that?" I asked.
'This?" She looked confused. "It's hot chocolate how could you not know what it is silly?" She added a little giggle on the end. It was really cute.
"H-hot chocolate?" I'd heard of it before but never tried it. "What does it tastes l-like?" I realised that was a stupid question right after I had said it.
"Try it and you'll see."
She placed the mugs on the coffee table and helped me sit up a little bit. She passed it to me and I had to use both hands to hold it. I took a sip. Instantly I felt better. It was sweet and warm and the warmth spread to my chest and it just felt so great. The cream was gorgeous and the marshmallows really went well with it. What had I been missing out on my whole life.
I must have drank it in under five minutes.
Eventually Mr Matthews came over and started asking me some questions.
"Do you really not remember anything Maya?"
"No sir.. I don't."
He explained to me everything from when I entered his class room to when I got here. Nothing interesting really.
Apparently I walked in at the end of the day, fainted, he picked me up, told the school he was my uncle and took me back to his place. I was out cold for about an hour with an ice pack on my bruised forehead.
Fun times I guess.
"Do you think you can walk maya?"
With some help from Riley and Mr Matthews, I climbed onto my feet and took a step.

Granted it hurt, but I could just about do it.
They let go and I took a few more steps. They were slow, but still steps.
It was getting late and I really didn't want to bother them much more, I feel like if I stay too long they'll be sick of me.
"Guys. I'm going to head home. My mom will be wondering where I am." I lied. But I feel like they wouldn't let me go if I didn't.
"I contacted your mother Maya. The school gave me her number. She didn't pick up her mobile or your landline. I don't think she's home. I could call again if you'd like?"
"No it's okay Mr Matthews. I'll be just fine at home."
'No Maya. You're staying. I know your mother isn't home. You're injured. You're not going to be home alone."
I went to walk towards the door when it opened on my face.
"Maya sit down now."
It was a lady in a suit. Probably Rileys mom. How did she know my name?
"Cory told me everything. Sit down. You're not going home."
I sat down. I hope they don't get sick of me...
"Maya. Cory gave me your address from the school files. I drove past your home on my way here. You're not staying there by yourself. You're staying here until your mother gets home. Do you know when that will be?."
"I have no idea Mrs Matthews."
"Have you got anything you would like to pick up from your house for your stay."
"Uhh maybe a little bit." I'd need a change of clothes.
Why where they being so nice to me? No one's ever acted like this before.
"Come on then. Let's go grab some things."
She opened the door and I followed her out of the apartment.
