Rilaya: The Beauty and the Broken

Chapter 11

*Riley's POV*

Mom had taken Maya to grab some of her belongings. She was going to stay at mine for a while! I was so excited I could have screamed! Maya Hart, the beautiful mystery of a girl, was going to stay with me. I started to blow up an air mattress and threw some clean bedding in the dryer, just so it would be warm for her. I rushed around the house, trying to make sure everything would be perfect for her when she arrived. I was so busy I didn't realise how long they had been gone until I heard my dad calling me from the living room. They must be back. I ran in to see him, my face beaming with excitement, but that changed as soon as I noticed the upset look on his face.
"Dad? What's wrong?"
"Honey it's.."
"it's what?"
"Uh I uh just got a call from your mother. She's on her way to the hospital. It's Maya..."
And with that, I could feel my heart shattering into millions of pieces.
"What's wrong with her? Is she okay?" I asked, almost yelling.
I was shaking from head to toe. I had only just met her. She can't be in danger already!
"According to the paramedic, she should be okay." My dad spoke and rushed around the apartment grabbing his coat and calling Auggie to get him in here.
Wait. That means she was in an ambulance. That could mean something is seriously wrong. Oh god. Oh god no. Why her. Why.
I returned from my frozen state, knowing that I had to get there as soon as I could. I grabbed my coat and ran to the car. My dad dropped Auggie off at Ava's house, and ran to the car.
We drove off towards the hospital as quickly as we could, avoiding the New York traffic by taking back routes.
For the whole journey I was shaking. I couldn't stop worrying about Maya. What happened? I hope she's okay...
We arrived at the hospital, and as soon as we pulled up I rushed out of the car. I had to stop for a minute. I felt like I was going to faint. I couldn't wait any longer. I ran towards the hospital entrance where I saw my mom sitting in the waiting room just outside the door. She noticed me when I ran in, and stood up to greet me with a huge hug. At this point I did start crying my eyes out uncontrollably. I had only met the girl this morning. How could I have such strong feelings towards her already?
"Is she okay mom? Tell me she's okay. What happened?" I managed through my tears. Mom sat me down and my dad entered the hospital and sat behind me listening in.
She explained everything. From their conversation in the car, to the moment Maya was hurried away by the doctors. At this point, my heart sank. The gorgeous blonde that  I met on the subway. The stunning girl I sit next to in class. The talented artist. The creative imagination. The mysterious one. The one who struck my heart from the second she climbed onto the train.
Maya Hart was harming herself and is now in hospital due to it. If she makes it out of this, I'm never taking my eyes off of her again.
I got comfortable on the chair next to my mom and rest my head on her shoulder. I eventually fell asleep. It had been a rough hour or so.
