Maya's POV
We didn't say much the rest of the journey, although we did make eye contact a few times.
Throughout the 5 minutes I couldn't stop thinking about her, the way she's different to everyone else. I just know she is, I can tell. I've never seen anyone in this way before. I don't know what I'm feeling. I don't know what to do.
I arrived at my station, and climbed off of the train. It just so happened to be the on stop that pretty much every other passenger departed on. I managed to get caught up in the crowd. I lost my footing and was trampled on several times; I'm sure that's going to look great in an hour or so.
Eventually making it to the exit, I climbed the stairs, back into the open air and made my way into my new school. Which is conveniently located right outside the station.
I hope Riley made it out okay. I wonder where she's going? Is she starting middle school too? She couldn't have been over the age of 12.
The bell rang for 8 o'clock and I made my way to my first class. History with Mr Matthews. God, I hate history, this will be fun.
Our names were on the desks, directing us to where we would be sitting for the year. Mine was at the front. For fucks sake. Seriously? The front? Looks like history is going to be worse than I thought.
As everyone settled down, I noticed that there was an empty seat next to me with the name "Riley" written on it. Wait. Is it the same Riley from the train? If so, why isn't she here yet? Did something happen to her in the crowd?
Just as I was getting lost in my thoughts, I heard the door open. Walking through it was the beautiful brunette I met on the train. Her hair had been messed up and the contents of her bag seemed to be jumbled up in her hands, she's probably dropped them several times.
"Sorry dad!" She said whilst rushing to her seat, dropping things on the way. "I got lost in the crowds at the station"
Dad? Mr Matthews is her dad? Riley Matthews. I like it. I snapped back into reality and noticed that she was panting, clearly out of breath. I got up out of my seat, picked up her belongings and passed them to her. Probably the nicest thing I've ever done.
Riley looked up at me and smiled, "Thank you Maya"
I replied with a smile and took my seat.
"Riley, you know this girl?" He seemed to have a worried tone in his voice.
"Yeah we uh met on the train," Riley explained "Why? Is there something wrong?"
"Oh. Umm no. There's uh nothing wrong. Just um. Nothing." He seemed a little shaky, "Maya, I'd like to speak to you after class"
Ummmm what's that all about?
Mr Matthew's began teaching and I ended up zoning out like usual. There was just something special about Riley and I wanted to figure out what it was. It was like she was radiating happiness and rainbows.
By the time I had finished trying to figure out what it was (with no luck), the bell rang for end of lesson. Everyone began collecting up their belongings, whilst I sat there with Mr Matthews staring me down.
"Bye Maya, I'll see you in art after break!" She turned to her father, "Dad. I don't know what you want to talk to Maya about, but please be nice" and with that, she left.
After everyone evacuated the classroom, Mr Matthews say on his desk, crossed his arms and began to speak.
