chapter two: crazy in love

***

May 15, 1953

call her crazy but her friends would say she's crazy in love. Eloise was head over heels for Matthew Espinosa and she couldn't help it.

Eloise walked through the crowded halls of her high school with her head up high and a wide grin on her face. With only a month of her sophomore year being left, Eloise felt great. She could practically already feel the summer air and smell the ocean which she'd partly spend her vacation at when her dad picked her and her brother up from their home to take them to Florida, a place he'd been promising for so long he'd take them too.

If only they could take their mom, too, Eloise thought. It would've been a fun family vacation like they used to have before the stupid divorce that ruined just about everything.

Eloise became lost in her thoughts until she saw a familiar face across the hall that snapped her out of her thoughts really quick.

"Matt!" She yelled. His head snapped up and what Eloise saw was a boy who was excited to see her. She saw a smile but, maybe that was just her mind playing games with her.

It actually was. What Matthew saw was a psychotic girl who had been obsessed with him since the sixth grade, running toward him at full speed with no intention of stopping. His eyes widened as his head snapped up to look at her and he immediately feared for his life.

"Matt!" She yelled once again. Matthew turned around, pretending to not know her and that he didn't see her.

"Don't call me that," he said, facing his locker.

"Why not?" She raised an eyebrow, confused. "That's what everybody else calls you."

"Everybody else." He replied. "Except you." She stared at him, unaware of what to say. Maybe Matt had just woken up on the wrong side of the bed this morning - or every morning.

Matthew was always a jerk to Eloise but she just didn't see that. Like Matthew with his nickname, everybody else did - except her.

"Get away from me, Eloise," he said, beginning to walk away.

"Are you feeling okay Matt?" She asked, following him.

"I'd feel better if you'd go away," he speed walked. "And don't call me that."

Eloise stopped following Matthew when she saw where he was headed. He was going toward Rosie - the girl he'd been best friends with since the sixth grade when Eloise began to like him.

Whenever Eloise was around Matthew, he'd always look for Rosie. Maybe he was going to her for advice on how to talk to Eloise, she always thought.

But, of course, Eloise told herself everything but the truth.

"El," a voice said. Eloise turned around to see her best friend, Claudia, now standing in front of her. Eloise forced a small, weak smile as Claudia displayed one as well.

Claudia knew things Eloise didn't.

Matthew only went to Rosie to get away from Eloise.

Rosie knew.

Claudia knew.

Matthew knew.

Eloise didn't know.

Hey lovelies. I'm so happy this is my most favorite time of the year and I'm finally on thanksgiving break for the week. Hopefully I could get some writing in while having practice and homework and all that. My goodness I just did a beach workout yesterday with my team and I like died. I'm still dead.
