Xyla, Figgs, and Lia were chatting excitedly about the graduation ceremony that just ended as they were walking back to the bakery.
"You're so lucky Xyla, no more school for you. Lia and I still have another year to go!" said Figgs."True, but at least you guys have places to go after you graduate. I'm stuck here, at 19 years old, with nothing to do for a whole 'nother year, until my midwife training's done,"Xyla replied, "and don't give me any excuses on why you don't have places to go, because I know you both do."
"Yea, at least I live in a bakery, but you're lucky because you don't have a baker brother to share your room with!"said Lia.
All three of them cracked up, remembering the story of the "camouflage cake" Lia's brother Peeta tried making in the past. But, as they approached the bakery, the laughter about the cake subsided, and Xyla and Figgs started growing sly grins over their olive skin faces.
" Oh, Hi Mr. Mellark! And hi Gale, surprised to see you here today...How are you?" Xyla rambles, winking at Lia as she talks.
Then Figgs joined in, "Oh, are you here selling game again, Gale? Did you want to join us inside?" He then smiled widely at Lia. Lia glared at him. "or...or not, up to you haha"
Lia finally decided to chime in." You know what? I actually need to speak with these idiots privately if you don't mind, Gale. Maybe next time."
"Yea, sure" Gale said, laughing at how flustered she looked. "Next time then" Lia smiled and then turned to both her friends, who gave her sheepish looks.
After running back to her room, dragging her two friends, Lia went off on her besties, "Wow guys, thanks a lot. Now, he thinks I'm a complete nut with insane friends. So, thank you. Soooo much. Plus, he already likes Katniss, I'm pretty sure they were made for each other."
"Hey, if you like him so much, who cares about Katniss. Why don't you just try talking to him, or, maybe you can even ask him out!"suggests Xyla, and Figgs had to include, "And maybe because we're helping match you up, you can help match us up too?" Lia gave him a hard stare.
"Whose matching up with who? Did my older sister finally get herself a boyfriend?"interrupts a teen boy's voice.
"OMG no, Peeta, I did not 'get myself a boyfriend'. And nobody is matching up with anybody except for you and the pigs." retorts Lia.
"Ouch. Anyway, Lia, Mom is about to walk through the front door, so I suggest your friends pack up."Peeta comments, then walks into the other room to do who knows what. Probably to bake something.
Figgs quickly says his good byes and then runs out after hearing Lia's mom was on her way home, not wanting another lecture about being in Lia's room. "You heard your bro, Lia, and he's right. I don't really want to be here when your mom gets home. heh. Oh, but one last question; how many times is your name in the pot this year for the Reaping? It's over for me, but Figgs told me his name was in there 16 times, poor thing.""Ummm, I think 30 something times? Not sure, my older brothers have none in there, because they're too old, and Peeta is more important to the bakery than me because he can actually bake tasty things. But it never hurts to have extra grain and rations for the bakery. So yea, i think it was around 30."said Lia.
"30?!?!" Xyla yelled, outraged,"girl if you get picked ima go out there and kill somone for you!"
Lia started laughing,"It's FINE, Xyla, I won't get picked. Now go, and I'll see you tomorrow, ok?"
After a minute or two more of inner debating, Xyla reluctantly nodded her head and left, but still looked a little bit worried.
