All of the other children went about their business, paying no attention to her no matter how hard she pounded on the window or how loud she screamed and yelled. She punched and pounded against the window until her hand split open and she got blood all over the glass, and she screamed and yelled until she started to lose her voice. But nobody payed attention, no one even glanced in her direction. Not one person. Jack broke down and moved back to hide under her desk. She didn't even know why she was here. She was so confused, she thought she remembered breaking out and gaining some allies and being part of a cult and being a pirate and killing anyone that got in her way. She thought she joined up on a mission with a woman named Shepard. But she wasn't even an adult. She was a little girl still. In the hands of Cerberus still. The doctors must have drugged her and played with her dreams, given her another life just to wake her up and remind her that she could never have that. It was all just some trick. That would never happen, she could never make that happen. There was no way she would ever get out of here.
She started to cry and the tears didn't stop. She was defeated and she didn't know what to do. Jack was scared and she just wanted it to end.
The next thing she knew, the floor disappeared from underneath her and her surroundings faded to black. She was falling and didn't know if it would end. Her heart was racing and her chest was tightening, then she heard someone calling her name. The worst part was, she remembered the voice from the dreams that Cerberus gave her.
"Jack....Jack!"
Her eyes shot open and she was panting, it felt she had been holding her breath forever. When she saw the person that was calling her name, she rolled out of her grasp and put a good distance between them immediately. When her back hit against a wall, she looked at her surroundings and she didn't recognize them.
Miranda immediately tried to calm her lover, who was looking like a cornered, scared animal at the moment. "Jack," She said calmly, with her arms outstretched cautiously. When Jack's gaze snapped back onto her, her heart ached for the tattooed woman, she hated to see her lover like this. "It's okay, Jack. You just had a nightmare, that's all it was." Miranda said in an attempt to bring Jack back to reality.
"No. No, I was there, just now, it was real." Jack said, her voice cracking as she started to tremble.
"No, Jack. You were here, in bed, with me. You weren't really there."
"W-what?...No, I was there and they ignored me again. And then I went under my desk...i fell asleep, this is just a dream." Jack thought aloud, trying to put the pieces together.
Tears were welling in Miranda's eyes now. "No, Jack. No, that place doesn't exist any more. Remember? You blew it up, with Garrus and Shepard."
"That's what they want me to think!"
"No, Jack. That was real. The scientists are the ones that aren't real. They're figments of your imagination, they're a memory, I'm real. This is real, Jack. Not the bloody scientists." A few tears were freely falling down Miranda's cheeks by the time she finished. Jack paused, thinking things over, taking time to process what was going on. A puzzled look made its way onto her face while she was thinking things over. She shivered and looked at herself, noticing that she was naked and in the next moment she seemed to put the pieces together and she looked at Miranda, who was silently waiting, with tears still slowly rolling down her cheeks.
Jack then closed the distance between them and hugged Miranda, clinging to her lover like her life depended on it.
A/N: Short and sweet, like the first bit. So blah. :P
