Emma's POV
I watched Eric as he slept. A troubled look on his face. His face suddenly contorted, twisting into a soft smile. Then I heard the monitor wailing. I looked at the flat line on the screen while simultaneously screaming at Eric to wake up. Nurse Courtney came in again and said, "It was his time sweetie. He's ok now." I couldn't breathe. I refused to accept Eric was gone. His mother was frantically wailing and sobbing in his room. Somebody had shut the heart monitor off. I saw a doctor roll a lifeless body , attached to no tubes, no wires, but no Eric. Just a lumpy white sheet. I cried and cried and cried and cried. I went back to my room and fell asleep to the sound of my ragged breaths.
"It's to small for me!" I exclaimed as I crammed my self into a black dress. The wrists at my forearms. "It's the only nice thing you have!" Exclaimed my mother. "Do it for Eric." That shut me up. She put me in a pair of large hoop earrings and draped a silver necklace over my head. We drive in silence to the Larfe Cemetery. I suddenly remembered the first time Eric came home. His baggy black sweatpants, accompanied by his black converse and grey sweatshirt looked like he was in pajamas. Not to mention his grey beanie to cover up his stubble head and his backpack containing the oxygen that would help him stay comfy. He looked perfect. His dimples carved deep into his checks, his freckles catching the sun in the best way possible, and his bright green eyes. Smiling through it all. I stared at his detailed coffin. I looked in to find him in a black suit with a black and red striped tie. His face permanent my in that soft smile. His dimples and freckles looked perfect. His eyelids carefully closed, he looked like he was sleeping peacefully. His head was stubbled like a mans beard scruff. It was adorable. They put a light silk blanket over him and closed the coffin. They carefully placed it into the specially carved hole. I didn't realize I was crying until it was my turn to say my words. "Eric was amazing, in every way.His smile brightened the room and everyone in it. He laughed often, he smiled often, and he beat cancer, he's free of it now." I drawled in and on. When I was finished I saw tears in everyone's eyes. I then realized my eyes were dripping the salty water. I quickly wiped them away. I'm proud of Eric. He beat cancer. Which he had always wanted to do. Maybe not in the way he wanted to beat it, but he did. And he made a significant imprint on my life. One that I will never forget.
