Emma's POV
I ran to Eric with tears streaming down my face. His body was nothing but a mix of clear wires and tubes and dials and beeps and whirs and tanks of oxygen. I grasped his cold, limp hand in mine. I lay my head down on his shoulder, covered by the papery gown. "Oh Eric!" I sobbed. He shouldn't die at 16. It was wrong. " I want you to know that I love you Eric, I really do. You were my everything. I'll miss you, so much." She broke down. She said with a voice wracked with pain. "Pull the plug. I want to see the peaceful look on his face. I could hear the thudding of the shoes again. "Clogs?" I thought. The doctor pulled something out of a few tanks and the wall. I wanted the oxygen back. My lungs wouldn't breathe. I internally shouted at them. Suddenly I got a short, slight gasp of air. Emma screamed. "He's still alive!" The doctor quickly hooked the tanks back up, but left the plug out. I opened my eyes the tiniest bit, then forced them all the way open. I wanted to close them but caught sight of Emma. She was skinnier than I had ever seen her."Emma" I croaked. "Yes Eric!" She shouted excitedly. "You need to eat more donuts." She started laughing and crying. My mother came over and gently hugged me, but when her fingers brushed my leg stump I screamed so loud I probably woke everybody up. No joke. The pain overwhelmed me, but I was determined not to black out. My eyes were spilling tears and the doctor quickly hit a button on his pager. "Nurse Courtney to room A-17 immediately." He calmly told me where it hurt and why. "My stump." I whimpered. A nurse who looked about 20 came into the room looking frazzled. She immodestly went to work, cramming more tubes into my weak body, I felt better and wanted to sleep. "They'll knock him out for a few hours. Stay with him. Keep him stable. " Then a sweet velvety light enveloped me. I sniffed the honey scented air. "Finally" I said.
