"Star, she's gonna be fine." Summer, my best friend tried to soothe me.

God help me please! I screamed in my mind as I beg to him.

I stood up and headed straight inside my baby's room.

Tears pooled my eyes as I look around the room. Pictures of us were scattered on the wall, the stufftoys I bought her were all on the left side of her bed.

My baby's a girl, but she's not the kind of girl who likes collecting barbies and doll houses.

"Please give us your answer within this week so we can let you sign the papers, she needs the surgery as soon as possible Ms. Alexanders."

What the doctor said kept on replaying inside my head. A week? Where would I get loads of money for that? I sobbed silently as I stare at my sleeping princess.

"Oh Aly, why does it have to be you?" I whispered in between my sobs.

She stirred and slowly opened her eyes.

"Mommy, are you kwying?" She said sleepily.

"No baby." I said and bit my lip to stop the sobs from coming out. I sat beside her and rested my back on the headrest.

Stroking her hair she hugged my waist and snuggle to my side.

"Mommy, lying's bad. Papa God would get mad." She said using the lines I always use when she's trying to get away with something bad she did and yawned.

"Sorry baby, it's just that mommy doesn't want you to get worried." I said but I got no response from her indicating that she already fell asleep again.

I looked at how beautiful my baby is. Alyssa Alexanders.. My angel.

I bit my bottom lip to stop myself from letting out sobs again.

My family was no use! How cruel can they be? My baby needs a surgery and they just don't care! I cried profusely.

I need to find a way. I need to find a way to get that money.

I froze on the spot when I remembered the contest that our company held. I quietly stepped out of Aly's room and strode towards the living room where my bag is.

"What are you doing?" Summer who was sitting on the couch asked as I rummaged my bag.

"Found it!"

"The hard copy of your story?" She asked. "What are you gonna do with that?"

"Just want to make myself remember that the result of the contest will be tomorrow. I'll win Sum, I'll win." I said with confident.

Summer's face brightened.

I know the prize wasn't that big for my daughter's surgery. But it can be a big help.

After last night, I can't keep myself from smiling. I'm not trying to impress anyone here but I, myself know that I am a good writer and my work wouldn't be a waste.

Mr. Peres, the owner of the company I'm working at doesn't want me to join the contest for the reason I don't know but because I really need money, I ignored him.

Just like the old days, I left the house this morning because I have work and Summer will take care of my Aly. Summer works for herself, she owns a bookstore 2 blocks away from our apartment and she always takes Aly with her in weekdays and saturdays. Aly's still not attending school but she already knows how to count and read and she enjoys reading a lot that's why she never gets bored staying with Summer.
