"Deep inside me

there are things that I have never told

they burn inside me"

- Broken Promises , Elemental Eighty

He looked at her . She never met his gaze and strode forward pulling the suitcase behind her.

She hated him. He knew why. He understood .

"I don't like her either . I like Cora ." His brain argued

Her family was happy , the twins, Ashleigh and Conner talking animatedly as usual . Her father whistling a soft tune in display of being a strong male who doesn't have emotions . Her mother sat there , with her lips strained in a fixed smile - it didn't falter for a moment .One could think moving away didn't affect her but her eyes showcased a range of emotions .

The highlight of the family was Tessa . She stepped inside the car , her hands folded in her lap and she stared ahead . No one could tell what was she thinking - if she was happy or angry or sad . Her face shadowed her pretense well .

Watching from the shade , he sighed.

He wanted to help her move , she didn't let him .

"You've already helped me a lot . In many ways . " Her voice echoed , still ringing in his brain.

The moving truck was long gone and then, he watched their car disappear out of view . Yet the voice of the merrily chatting family and the songs blasting from the radio could be heard .

He looked at their previous house , " A two storied modest home " He decided .

Tessa was his best friend. They had the most cliché story in the world. Neighbors turned best friends turned lovers.

What changed was the fact that he broke it off and she willingly agreed.

Evan never knew why though . He didn't understand her at all. Her face showed no sign of remorse and she promised to be his friend . Always .

But her world slowly cocooned to exclude him. The walls were built . Stronger this time . Fiercer .

He knew why he broke it off though. He lacked the courage to think about it , though .

Cautiously entering the house , as if he could still feel her presence around, he inhaled deeply to be met with the scent of wooden carvings all around .

The house was empty . He had never seen it like this . So deranged . So empty as if it was already aware of the lack of it's occupiers .

Taking the staircase, he turned to enter her room. The wall stripped of the posters it first showcased . Faded pink wallpaper lay on the floor . He smiled - it had been there since he could remember .

Although as soon as he touched her walls , an electrifying surge passed through him . Imagination , of course, but he tumbled back . He didn't belong here.

At the corner , something was kept . Forgotten . It was easy to miss it though . A cardboard box. Taped neatly.

He squinted . The box was labelled "Memories I want to forget" . Curiosity filled him as if it were a poison , due to which he quickly ran to the box and ripped the tape off .

What he saw was a collection - an array of remembrances from her past .

The first item was her broken glasses - he remembered. Her bully did it .

Running his hand through the objects, he found many of his gifts to her - the key ring , the photographs , the teddy bears .

Then he came across a shoe box. Quickly , he opened it inexpertly as he watched the contents of the box fall out .

It was not what he expected . They were sheets of papers . Written on , as he noticed .

The one which fell on his hand showed a peek of what was written inside .

And he only caught two words , "Dear Evan," .

The oxygen seeped out of the room as his chest tightened and he sat there on the dusty floor gasping for air in his own bubble of atmosphere.

It was then , Evan wondered out loud , "Why am I here . Why did I want to bid her goodbye when I could be at home " .

His voice echoed throughout the bare room and in those echoes , he found the answer .

He didn't make an attempt to stand up or go away . He sat and read . Read what she wrote to him . Her unsent letters to him . Evan couldn't understand his need to read these- to forget about the world and only read these -

He skilfully lied to himself. He was convinced that it was to understand her true mask beneath the disguise of being emotionless ; to know why she didn't lash out at him, as expected.

His phone vibrated continuously as the bright screen presented "1 Missed Call . 4:57 " . The name displayed was of Cora.

Slowly , he undid the first unsent letter titled "Letter 1 " as his fingers shook ever so slightly .

A/N :Hey ! Back with a new story.
