We ran to the stage! Fearing someone got hurt, without knowing what really happened on stage and we found La Carlotta yelling at some of the dancers and other actors.

“This is NOT what I signed up for!!”

Meg ran towards me, asking once more: “Are you all right?” I nodded quickly, and asked her:

“What happened here?”

“He’s here… La Carlotta was just started singing the laughing-part, as the scenery one by one fell down as he laughed as a demon!”

“You don’t think it was Bouquet?” I said with a hope she might share the same thought, but she didn’t.

“Bouquet doesn’t laugh like he does.”

The rest of the day La Carlotta yelled at more actors, no matter whoever was crossing her way.

Just before she ran towards me and started yelling Madame Giry gripped my arm and made me follow her to the entrance. Except from the workers, painters and other workmen we were alone.

“My dear, I have something very joyful to tell you. I can tell you, Monsieur Philippe de Chagny and I has made this incredibly decision, about Vicotme de Chagny –“ she paused looking very ecstatic, “and you. We have decided you two are to be engaged!”

A giant, cold icy stone touched the bottom of my stomach.

"I’m sorry…We’re what? Madame Giry how can you accept such agreement?”

“Dearie this is a great opportunity! This is just what you need?”

“What do I need?”

“You need to get out of here!” She said very sharply. “Why’re you not pleased of this arrangement?”

“Be—Because, Madame Giry, I do not love him. Maybe as a brother, but nothing more than that; the last time I saw him was years ago and I haven’t been thinking of him every second since. He is not the right one for me, Madame Giry.”

She was quiet for a second. “Christine, these times we live in is not perfect. Vicomte de Chagny might be your salvation from here—”

“But I don’t want to leave!”

“—and so you shall! That is final.” Madame Giry turned her gravely seriously face to a quick smile and kiss my cheeks and left me alone.

Outside the sun was almost setting.

I need you, please lead me to you chambers I need to get out of here, just for now! The thought flew through my mind countless times, and countless times I had the feeling someone looked at me. I turned, but no one was there.

Go to your dressing room. An inner voice said. I went to the dressing room for the ballerinas as the voice once more said no, the other dressing room. Now I knew which the voice meant. I walked straight to La Carlotta’s pink and reddish dressing room. Just like last time, the lights blew out and a kind of fog appeared – or was it just my imagination?

The temperature of the room became icy in seconds.

Come with me, my angel of music! The mirror glided aside and showed him in his black hat, coat and white mask still covering his left side of his face. I hid in his arms.

“What happened to you?” I asked, it really felt he hadn’t made any contact past the last five days.

“I’ve missed you – I’ve needed you—“
