The Ailing Heart

Chapter 7

Good morning beautiful! Get ready I'll pick you up at 7. The note reads. I jump out of the bed, straight into the shower. I grab a pair of bleached jeans and a crop top paired with my lace jacket and sneakers.

I rush down the stairs and straight out the door. I can see a black Audi parked in my driveway. There he stands leaning on his beast. That sexy smirk of his stuck on his face.

"Good morning beautiful". He says as I walk near the car.

" Good morning handsome". I reply as he opens the door for me.

He gets in next to me even before I can strap on the seat belt. Well blame the vampire speed. He drives through the morning streets while the radio plays some soft romantic numbers.

We drive through the almost empty streets for about fifteen minutes to reach the school. Liam parks the car into an empty slot and walks to my side to open the door for me.

Almost every one in the compound is staring at us with their mouths open. I know its kinda weird for them to see the hottest introvert in school with the Indian nerd who is not likes by many. I don't blame them though.

"I think you should go. I don't want you to be seen with the nerd". I state as a frown takes over his otherwise flawless face.

"I don't give one damn to that. But you don't wanna be seen with me then I'll understand". He says.

"Let's not argue right now". I say as we enter the main building.

He doesn't say anything further and walks by my side till we reach the locker room.

Jenny and Trevor are standing by my locker. They wave to me but stop when they realise who I'm walking in with.

"Gotta go beautiful". Liam says into my ear, with his face right next to mine. I can feel his cold skin brush against mine for a second before he pulls back.

"Yeah bye". I say as we walk our own separate ways. I walk to Jenny and Trevor as he walks to the gym girl, Victoria is her name I suppose.

" What did I just see?" Jenny exclaims pretty bad.

"What? We're just friends". I say calmly, cause its true.

" Just friends ?" Jenny and Trevor say in unison.

"Yeah. Just friends". I reply gently pushing Jenny off my locker and picking up my books. The interrogation continues for the entire biology class earning us a few glares from the teacher.

I'm glad Jenny and Trevor finally stop by lunch time cause if not I'd have gone crazy. It's already time for gym. Today's day passed by in a blur.

It's already time to go home. I love when school gets over in a blur. Liam is already standing by his car talking to the Victoria girl as I walk into the parking lot. I hug Jenny and Trevor goodbye as I walk up to Liam.

"Hey Nidhi!" Victoria exclaim as she hugs me. A hug so hard that she almost squeezes the life out of me. Liam see my suffocated face and pulls Victoria back in a flash. It takes some time for me to catch my breath again.

"Are you alright ?" Liam asks with his sexy voice laced in concern.

I just nod my head to answer cause I'm still out of breathe. Victoria literally apologises a hundred times for this. It takes me quite a while to finally convince her that it okay.

Liam opens the door and walks up to his seat. He drives while telling me about Victoria, who is his sister. Liam and Victoria are not biological siblings but they love each other as if they are. I get so indulged into Liam's admiration for his sister.

I finally bid a goodbye to Liam and thank him for the drive as I walk back home.

"Nidhi! Baby you're home?" Dad calls as I close the door.

"Yes I am". I say as I walk into his study. He is sitting on his table surrounded by files and folders.

" Yea Dad. Wanted to talk?" I ask as I walk up to him and sit on the arm rest of his chair.

We talk for about an hour about nothing in specific. Dad also mentions about the recent murders in town.

"With all these things going around in town, Baby I want you to be really really careful". He says, concern clear in his voice.

"Yes Dad. I always am careful". I assure him.

This topic strikes the discussion about my childhood. It stopped on the Karate classes I used to take as a kid. And being the clumsy kid I've always been, it for sure didn't end up well.

" Remember when you..." Dad starts but I cut him off.

"Yeah yeah I do. Now stop embarrassing me. Will you ?"

"Oh my baby. You've grown up so fast. It feels like yesterday I carried you in my arms, taught you how to walk holding you tiny fingers, listened to your mixed up blabbering and now you're all grown up into a beautiful girl". He says wiping off a stray tear.

I don't say anything and give him a hug, which is something I haven't done in a while. Dad hugs me back while gently running his hand over my head. I pull back after a few seconds and give him a smile.

With that I walk back to my room as Dad dips his head back into his files. I plop myself on the bed and grab my laptop. I am in the middle of checking my emails when I get a text from Jenny saying she'll pick me up in fifteen minutes to go shopping with her.

There's hardly anyway I can avoid it so I reply her saying I'll be ready in twenty. I put my phone aside and rush to the closet. I pick out my distressed jeans and an oversized sweater. I hop in for a quick shower and dry myself. I get myself into the clothes I had previously picked and get my makeup done. I just set the brush down on the table when I hear the honking in the driveway.

I grab my phone and rush down the stairs. I tell Dad that am going and rush straight out the door. I seat myself in the front passenger seat with Trevor in the back one as Jenny zooms off.

For the entire time we drive Trevor and I blabber about what should be our Halloween costumes. Jenny says she's go for a Minnie Mouse costume and Trevor settles for the Superman one while I'm too confused to decide.

We stop by tons for stores picking out clothes and other random stuff. I end up buying sweaters and shirts and a few pairs for jeans and not to forget my shoes. Once we're done with shopping we stop by a diner for supper. It's almost around 10 by the time I reach home.

I out up all the shopping bags aside and get changed into my pj's cause I'm too tired to put them in anyways. I grab my copy of Pride and Prejudice and fall asleep reading it.
