"Michael am I a bad person?" Aubri asked as we sat in the lobby of the police station.

I looked down at her as she she laid her head on my chest. "Of course you aren't a bad person." I told her. "Why would you think that?"

She sat up and bit her lip. "I don't know. Maybe it's Karma catching up to for what I did to Dominique and everything else I've screwed up in my

life."

"You aren't a bad person Bri. Fucked up shit happens in life and it ain't shit we can do about it but accept it and try to move on." I declared caressing her soft face with my thumb.

She looked at me unconvinced then looked away, closing her eyes. "I guess so." she mumbled laying back on my chest and I began to softly stroke her hair.

We've been sitting in this police station for about an hour since Aubriana got the call this morning. When we first got here they wouldn't tell us what happened but instead a woman police officer told us to have a seat and they'll be with us any minute.

"Ms.Domino?" The tall, slender red head woman from earlier approached us with a soft smile.

Aubriana shot up and slowly walked over to the woman with a nervous and anxious look on her face.

"Yes Ma'am." Aubri said politely.

The women shifted her ocean blue from Aubriana to myself then back again. "Why don't you two follow me to my office where I can explain in private."

Aubri nodded her head then motion for me to follow. I grabbed her hand and she lead me into the small office then the woman closed the door.

"Ms.Domino I'm detective Benson." She introduced herself. "I was assigned this at almost 5 o'clock this morning."

"Okay."

"Around that time we received a call from one of your neighbors complaining about arguing coming from home. 3467 Chapman street, is that the correct address?"

"Yes."

"Okay. We sent a patrol car out and a man was reported to be seen leaving the scene at almost 5:30." The detective explained. "We complained that he was a friend of your mother and that everything was just fine. We questioned your mother and she confirmed that what the man said was true."

"Okay so why am I here?" Maintains questioned rudely.

I laid my hand on her thigh then gave it a gentle squeezed and mouthed "Chill." She rolled her eyes then turned her attention back towards detective Benson.

"At 6:45 there was another call reporting flames coming from the rear of your home." She said pulling out polaroids and laying them on the oak desk for us to see.

I heard Aubri gasp like the wind had been knocked out her as she looked at each polaroid. Each picture had a different angle of the devastation. I looked over and Aubriana just stared at the picture.

"We have a some devastating news." The detective looked Aubri with sympathetic eyes as she continued her explanation. "After the fire was put out and the fire Marshall gave the okay that it was safe to go in we discovered what we think may be human flesh."

Aubriana grabbed her chest and it looked like she was gonna pass out any moment so I stood by her side and rubbed her back in my attempt to calm her down.

"So you mean to tell me my mother could be d-dead." She said stumbling over her words.

"We're not for certain until we get the results on the autopsy."

Aubriana shook her head then stood up knocking over the chair she once sat in.

"How the hell do you not know if what you found is or isn't my mother!" Aubri screamed. "Isn't it your fucking job to determine that or do get your pleasure outta of watching someone else's misery."

"Okay enough Bri." I said interjecting on Aubriana's rant.

She stormed out of the room and the detective shook her head. "I'm so sorry about that." I apologized on Aubriana's behalf.

"Its quite alright, I've heard and seen worse. Just make sure she's calm and we'll be in touch with the autopsy as soon as possible."

I nodded my head then walked out of the station to see Aubri punching kicking the brick wall. I ran over and engulfed her in a hug.

"Its not fair." Aubri cried pushing me in my chest.

"Ssshhh babygirl it's gon' be okay." I pulled her into a hug as she dropped to her knees but she wasn't crying just pouting.

After ten minutes of us sitting on the pavement she finally got up and we walked to my car. I held her door and before I could close it she stopped me.

"Can you take me home?"

"Yeah."

I jogged around to my side then started the car and getting on the highway going towards her house.

Thirty minutes later we pulled up to her house...well what was left of her house. Aubri jumped out and stood on the front lawn just shaking her head.

I sat in the car just so she could be alone. My phone buzzed on the car charger next to me with a text from Chris.

12:30pm Chris- Aye man boss need us to come in tonight.

I rubbed my face and sighed then replied with a simple okay. Placing my phone back on the charger I got out and Aubriana seemed stressed. I wrapped my arms around shoulder and started to massage them softly.

"I got you ma. Don't worry about a thing."

[Aubriana]

I felt Michael massage my shoulders as I stared at what used to be my house. Yeah we didn't have much and it wasn't a multi-million dollar mansion but it was home to me.

"I got you ma. Don't worry about a thing." He whispered into my ear from behind me.

I turned around in his arms so we were face to face and gave him a slight smile. I didn't quite understand why Michael was being so nice to me and I didn't know where we stood but I'm happy we came into my life When he did. Maybe he was right after all, Shit happens and we just have to accept it.

"Thanks Michael." I kissed his cheek.

"No need to thank me." He pecked my forehead.

We stood there looking at my destroyed home for awhile then we got in his car and pulled off.

We arrived at his house and we both got out. Michael unlocked the door then let me in first. I sat on the couch and Michael leaned on the wall with his head into his phone.

"Aubri you know you can stay here and as for clothes and shit, take my card then call Honey so y'all can go shopping or whatever." He said finally looking at me.

"Michael where do we stand?" I asked disregarding his question.

He came over to where I was and pulled me into his lap before speaking. "Ion know just yet ma but we'll figure that later but for right now go some rest and we'll talk later." He said tapping my leg for me to get up.

Sighing I stood to my feet and walked down the hall towards Michael's room. I already had a pair of sweats and shirt so I crawled into his bed and pulled the sheets over my head.
