So for as long as I've been on wattpad, I've learned a couple of secrets on how to get more people to notice your book.
#1. When you publish your book, make sure the cover stands out. It must be eye-catching and visually unique in the genre that you're publishing in. Make sure not to choose art that is irrelevant to the story, characters, and plot of your story.
Pick out the most juiciest scene in your book whether someone gains powers, has their first kiss, kills someone or etc. and use it as your cover. Before someone even reads your sypnosis, they're judging your cover to see if it's appealing. It's the make-or-break factor that has a huge influence on whether your book will become success on Wattpad and in the publishing industry.
I can't emphasis enough on how important it is to make sure your cover is creative and unique. If it's just blank with the book title, then it gives a sign to potential readers that you're an amateur. In 2020, half-thrown together book covers is not going to cut it.
#2. Make an interesting sypnosis.
This is the point where you should focus on using foreshadowing in a mysterious way that is thought provoking. Don't just generalize the story. You need to show readers what makes your story better than the other books being published in your genre.
Just like how readers judge covers before actually reading the book, they will judge your synopsis too. Mostly because they want to see if you're telling a story that they're craving to read or to see if it has the same concept as every other book on Wattpad.
If it was half put together, and it seems uninteresting then readers will just scroll past your book and go read someone else's. This is why having an amazing sypnosis is one of the other make-or-break factors to whether you become big on Wattpad.
#3. To keep the readers, make sure your first chapter is filled with action or has a lot of tension. It's also a good idea to not make the first chapter too long.
If the first chapter is to long then readers will get agitated and won't read through the whole chapter, preventing you from having anyone read the second chapter.
We've all had books where we look at the views and see how the amount of reads drops over time.
The amount of words has to be just right which I would like to say is about 900-1200 words for the first chapter.
I like to start with things spicy in the first chapter. Also make sure you don't make any grammatical and punctuation errors in the first chapter because it's amateurish will cause you to lose readers fast.
These are a couple of secrets I know on how to keep your readers subscribed on Wattpad.
