#Chapter Forty Nine#
Mira's POV.
"Baby, are you alright?"
I peeled my eyes away from the classic novel, Anna Karenina that was resting between my hands and focused on Salem who had just walked through our bedroom door.
"I'm fine, why?" I asked, schooling my features into a wide smile.
He came to rest beside me on the bed, laying flat on his stomach and using his elbows to propel his upper body forward. His eyes jumped between my face and the book until eventually he gave a small shrug. "I don't remember the last time I saw you reading."
Mentally, I sighed.
If I was being honest with myself right now, I would have to admit that I was trying to put some space between Salem and I.
Why?
Well I had spent the whole morning giving Salem hints about my pregnancy and it wasn't until today that I realised how totally and completely oblivious he could be! I don't know if it was because he was stressing over the court hearing they had later today, in which Mr Radwan would be trialled. Even then, I don't see why that would matter because we all knew he was going straight into the cells with his son.
So now I was annoyed and mentally exhausted, although I was trying my hardest not to show it. I had tried to break it to him in a number of ways that I had creatively thought up of by myself, and in the end, I even resorted to just googling ways to reveal your pregnancy. The first thing I did was show him a yellow coloured baby bodysuit I had sewed myself. I held it against my stomach and waited to see if he would get it but after a few seconds of staring at it, he said:
I thought you only design adult clothing at work. Since when did you start on kids fashion?
I had spent one week on that stupid little bodysuit, ensuring it was perfect, right down to the very last seam.
I had even put a bread bun in the oven and made him open it up, but do you think that stupid, cliche idea worked either? He didn't even ask me why there was one random bun in there, he just simply began to eat it.
By now, I had given up on thinking of other ideas to break it to him but at the same time I didn't just want to say it outrightly to him.
That was too boring.
As he tested my patience though, I was finding it very hard not to just blurt out, I'M PREGNANT AND YOU ATE OUR BABY BUN YOU IDIOT!
"I'm bored and I'm not used to being at home on a Thursday."
It was true. Since Eid was tomorrow, today and the next three days were a national holiday, meaning everyone got the day off. I didn't really know what to do with myself and other than my attempts at breaking the news to Salem, he had been in his office looking over the personal profiles of every single guard and I had been in here reading.
Ever since he found out that Waqas had been aiding Mr Radwan, he decided that no one could be trusted and I think he was now up to his third background check on each individual.
"Do you have your Eid outfit?" he asked and I scoffed.
"Of course I do, what kind of a question is that?"
He lifted his hands up in defence. "Sorry I asked."
"I got you a new suit too, it's hanging up in the closest."
