As always, vote, comment, or don't. =)

Thanks for reading!

p.s. if anyone is reading this for the first time, it's a little boring at first, but i promise its going to get better =)

"Riley! Hola chica! How are you today?"

"Hey Kels! I'm good. When do I have to go up?" I was really hoping that I wouldn't have the first shift up, I was still pretty tired from the restless sleep that accompanies my nightmares.

"First. Sorry hun, now get your cute but up there!" she said smiling at me. Kelsey is the one person in my life who I never feel down around, she brings out the best in me, a side of me I didn't know existed until I met her! I went to the lifeguard office, took off my clothes and dragged my feet over to the stand for my shift.

Alone. That's how I was feeling as I sat up on the life guard stand watching the popular high school students having the time of their lives. The guys would do anything for those girls, and the girls would do anything for those guys. I watched as they all chased each other smiling and flirting.

They got attention, people looked up to them, people wanted to be them. Wanted the things they got, wanted to do the things they got to do. From the outside looking in, they were living the perfect lives. At that moment I realized what I wanted in my life. Popularity. Attention. I wanted what they had. I was sick of letting my past keep me down, the more alone I felt, the more I remembered. I saw popularity as my escape. At that moment I realized that I wanted to create a new me as I entered high school in August, I would be...popular.

After I blew the whistle for adult swim I jumped off the lifeguard stand and practically ran up to my best friend Kelsey in the lifeguard office. Kelsey and I have been friends since last summer, we actually met at this job unfortunately she's also a grade ahead of me so I didn't see much of her last year. She this hot blonde with blue eyes and she's super skinny.

It's always weird to see the two of us when we go out together because like I said earlier, I've always preferred being alone which is obvious in my appearance. Picture this, a tall pretty girl with straight layered blonde hair a little past her shoulders and dark blue eyes wearing jeans and a pink Hollister shirt with purple pumas. Then picture next to her a brunette, the same height as the blonde, with messy brown hair hanging down to her waist, not a cute messy, messy as in a hair brush hasn't been through that hair in a year. Now imagine this girl wearing baggy pants and a band t-shirt, all black. Total opposites right? Now you see why I said it's a weird sight to see us together.

For some reason though, we just click when we're together, we're so much alike and I feel like I can tell her anything and she tells me everything too. We became best friends fast regardless of the grade difference. Part of that might be because we're the same age. I started school late and then missed a year of school after...the incidents so I turned 15 the summer before 8th grade which has it's perks because I will be a driving freshman!

"Kelsey! Kelsey! I just had a revelation." She looked at me like I was crazy, I can understand it though, I'm never this excited about anything. "Woah! Where's the fire?" She said laughing.

"Very funny, but I'm serious, I finally know what I want out of high school."

"Oh." She said raising her eyebrows. "And what's that?"

"Okay ready...I'm gonna be popular."

"Haha and how do you expect to pull that off with the way you look?" she said while laughing and raising her eyebrows again. Little did she know I thought that one through already.
