Summer and I change classes laughing but she knew what happened. I turned my phone off. If anyone needs me, they know where I am. The halls seem less rowdy than before, which is mind blowing. It's not supposed to be this way until after lunch, when everyone has a full belly of laziness. Assuming I won't be trampled, I go to my locker; standing on tip-toe to read the dial. Why did I ask for a top locker? Six... Turn. No, go back. Seven... Not opening... Open! It opens and I grin a little. As I start to close it, it slams shut.

"What the fu.." Oh, him. Grey laughs at me and I'm guessing my face must be a sight because he's still holding his ribs as I stomp off. I know I'm the one that ran into him this morning but that wasn't on purpose. He just tried to scare me to death! My heart is taking it's precious time recovering as the hall empties. I'm just about to turn into my third block english class when someone grabs me by the arm and spins me around.

"Hey Laney, right?" Grey stands in front of me and I want to hit him to knock the smirk off his lips. Funny, I can't hold this desire long.

"Yes. Is there something I can help you with?" I'm no longer mad about the locker thing, but I don't want him aware of that. His expression is amusing; light eyebrows pressed together as if he's working out how to say whatever's on his mind. The door to Mrs. Audry's room shuts and the bell rings. Great, now I'm going to be late. The patience I had mastered is fading fast.

"Please just tell me what you want because I'm late and the longer I stand here waiting on you to speak, the more late I'll be. So, what is it?" I don't mean to sound rude but jeez! He rolls those big pretty eyes and I regret the attitude, no matter how fake it was.

"Forget it." He shoves away from the wall that he had been leaning against and before I can comprehend his actions, Grey's gone. I don't follow. I have way too much pride to chase after a guy who clearly doesn't want to talk. If he had, he would have been man enough to stay; despite my crankiness. That's fine with me. All the guys here behave so childishly. I watch as he disappears around a corner at the end of the hallway.

"What are you doing?" I recognize my friend Daisy's voice behind me that should have scared me silly popping up like that; guess I was side-tracked. Blushing, I turn to face her and see she has dressed up today. Which isn't the Daisy I know. Despite her girly name, she's anything but. If I'm short she's mini. This made me judge her wrongly in one area when we met a couple months back. I imagined she wasn't the type to fight or stand up to someone if they messed with her. Ha, the girl's human dynamite! This one guy pushed her and she almost attacked him; gotta love her, though.

"I was talking to this guy, but he ran away." I giggle at my own humorous response and her hazel eyes sparkle as she smiles. I can hardly believe that she's wearing mascara, not to mention the pink and black polka- dotted flowing blouse with her blue jeans and cowgirl boots. She's a redneck tomboy all the way. I tug her braided blonde ponytail playfully, grinning when she gives me her signature glare. "So, who are you getting all dolled up for?" I brace myself for the hit I know's coming.
