Chapter 6 : Training and The Older and Wiser

(3rd person P.O.V)

Like clockwork the RedWood pack was on the training grounds, they did a quick warm up before heading down and around the territory.  They familiarized themselves taking note of the terrain as they paced themselves back at the grounds.  They began to spar in hand to hand combat for the morning exercise.  It was a regular everyday training.  No one missed a day.  Although all of the wolves on the field were mates, they fought others.  They were all trained to hold in their emotions if their mate had gotten hurt.  However most were skilled to avoid them.  Isabelle, or Belle, as she was commonly called was sparring with Matt.  He had gotten a good punch on her last week so she was eager to fight him.  She punch quickly twice with her left hand guarding with her right as Matt blocked her as he fell to the ground and swiped his stronger and more muscular leg under her.  Belle punched down as Matt blocked her where she used the block to hold her for a second as she jumped over his sweep.  Matt went for a grab but was quickly dodged by Belle as she ducked and punched at his unprotected leg.  As Matt went to reach down again she jumped to the side and behind him as she got in two quick punches to his back.  He spun around hitting her forearms as she blocked his punch, guarding her face.  She quickly faked to the left before returning to the right and gave him a punch in the face.  Matt rubbed at his face with a fisted hand as he high fived Belle.  They continued sparing some more.

Inside the house Alpha Connor stood at the windows watching his pack spar with one another.  It was only 8 o’clock now and Alpha Chris and Luna Sarah had left early this morning out to another pack in the east, leaving Jack as the main pack doctor.  Sarah was confident that he was ready as he showed that confidence when he fixed up one of the pups in the MoonWater pack, who fell from a tree this morning.  Faith and Charlie were getting some much needed rest as they had a play date with Melody and Simon who were doing the same.

“They do this every morning?”  Alpha Damian asked as he stood beside Alpha Connor at the windows.

“They do.”  Alpha Connor replied curtly with a slight nod of his head.  Connor watch Belle give a good punch to Matt as he smirked remembering the bruise on her face last week when Matt had gotten her good.  After they high fived they went back to it, as Matt kicked her down.  She protected herself by leaning away from the kick just in time and rolling herself on the ground to break her fall.  Connor had taught her how to minimize the damage.  Hearing a slight growl to his right Connor gave a quick glance to Damian who had his jaw clenched.

“Calm yourself.”  Connor said quickly.  Damian was only a year older than Belle at 21, it was a great responsibility to lead the pack at such a young age, but he was a strong leader.

“I take it your pack doesn’t really like me.”  Grace had chosen that moment to walk past them to the kitchen as she sneered at Damian.

“They’ll warm up to you; they just really look out for Belle.”  Damian gave a curt nod.

Grace walked by again with a mug of coffee as she walked back upstairs.  “She will too… I think.”  Connor said again watching Grace go up the stairs.

Damian gave a sigh as he watched Belle fight.

“Do you regret it?”  Connor asked.  No matter how protective of Belle he was, he truly wanted to know.

“Rejecting her?”  Damian asked getting a nod from Connor as they both watched the other fighters.  It was a silent minute before Damian spoke again.  “I was young at that time…”  Connor could understand, it would make him 17.  “I knew I would be taking over as an Alpha.  My father had told me that I would be taking over at age 19.  It would only be a short 2 years before I would lead this pack.”  Damian glanced at Connor who held an emotionless face.  “I knew who she was, barley, after all she didn’t stand out at all, she always kept to herself and to be honest I didn’t really care.”  Connor still kept his face emotionless as Damian continued.  “I needed a strong Luna, someone the pack would respect and someone who could lead them.  Jaina was the perfect girl, sure she was a little flirty, but she truly was someone strong enough to hold this pack together.  I shouldn’t have treated her the way I did, and I regret throwing her down like that, rejecting her, but I didn’t know she would leave.”  Damian looked back to Conner whose jaw was tight.  “What would you have done?”  Damian dared to ask.

“If I knew I were taking over, finding a weak mate and deciding what was for the pack?”  Connor asked as Damian gave another quick nod.

“I can see your point, it’s for the pack.”  Damian was about to speak again as Connor cut him off.  “However you had 2 years.  I found my mate at 16, Faith was rouge and she didn’t want to be in the pack life.  She hated it.  I wasn’t Alpha yet.  I was going to be passed the Alpha title by my father in under a year.  My father was strict and for that reason our pack was strong.  He hated that my mate was rouge.  He wanted me to reject her, but I couldn’t.  I looked into her beautiful eyes and I needed her.  I cast aside everything just to hold my mate.  It was a disaster with what happened but my mate accepted me, even if I wasn’t an Alpha.  Of course I am an Alpha now.  Faith won over my parents, well my father.  My mother already loved her the minute she set eyes on her. And Faith has given me the gift of another life.”  Connor smiled remembering the news that Faith was pregnant.

“I truly understand your pack reasoning, I just don’t understand how you rejected her.  Without my biased opinion, I would say maybe that was the best thing, but with all my knowledge, you should have stayed with your mate.  She was only 16, she hadn’t even found herself.  You hadn’t even found yourself.  I can tell you that when Belle first stumbled into our territory, she had her first shift.  Can you imagine the pain you feel when you shift, especially alone, but with strangers?  I admit now, I didn’t treat her right.  I threw her across the room when I thought she was a danger to my pack.”  Damien’s shoulders tensed but Connor continued.  “Quickly however we learned she was just a little girl who needed a family and love, and that’s what she got.  She found herself after a year of being with us.  She formed the personality she has now; she got her likes and dislikes, and also set in stone what we should expect out of her.  She found herself in training and with her skills and fast learning, she was quick.  I’m proud of her and to have her in my pack and family.”  Connor stated off as the pack started to warm down.

“Which is why my pack is still hesitant around you.  The humiliation she felt being rejected and openly in front of her, with her sister of all people.  I don’t even know how she felt.  After being the reject daughter of your own family.  I’m sure the pack saw it, and I’m sure you saw it.  With everyone’s names starting in a J and hers starting with I.  She probably felt along all her life.  I can say I understand, truly.  But whether I agree and support that, that’s another story.  If Belle wasn’t over what had happened, if she didn’t really want a fresh start then I would have already beaten to half your life, but this is Belle’s life.  She gets to chose and she gets to set the rules, these just happen to be the rules.”  Connor gave a shrug as the pack started heading in their different directions.

“But if you truly want a change with Belle.  You need to show her, with kindness, patience, love and respect.  Blake is my Beta and my best friend, but you’re also her mate.  Whoever Belle chooses I’ll support them.  Belle being with you, her mate, is one of the happiest things for a girl like her, but if you hurt her, I’ll break you."  Connor turned away from the window starting at Damian, everything about him proved he was serious.  "Being with Blake, who understands her, is another story.  But let me tell you this Damian.  You can’t keep switching between rejection and acceptance, especially not with a girl like Belle.” Connor stood up to meet Blake and Belle by the door.  “Oh and you better make sure you know what you're doing.  Belle, not matter how tough she acts, she's still a girl, someone who is still looking for the acceptance she never got.  You need to understand her first before anything else, or you'll just push her away and lose her.”  Conner patted Damian's shoulder briefly before nodding at him.  He left the room as Damian watched Conner outside talking with Belle who was joined by Blake who slung his arm casually around her shoulders.

I won't lose her again.  Damian's wolf growled.  "No, no we won't."  Damian gave her one last look before deciding.  He will show her how much he loves her, how much they need each other, starting with showing her what a mate truly is.  A lover, a best friend, a support system, and especially the reason you want to live.

So what do you think?  A little more into their lives?  I love Connors brotherly protection over Belle, and a little more into His and Faiths life :O ;) <3 So sorry if it also seems short, I wanted this to be like the back view of the decision, and Damian's finally decided to go for it!  Still, Team Blake or Team Damian?  :O Fan, Vote, Comment <3
