"Hey babe." Sarah said in a groggy voice. "Wake up and get outside right now!"

It was weird getting used to my talker. The vibrations of one person literally fill you body making it feel like they're right next to you. Of course they aren't they can be up to 5 miles away without a booster.

"I'm coming I'm coming." I told her. I walked outside. It really wasn't outside but the City Projector makes the dirt ceiling about 10 miles high look like a sky. The whole City was underground.

It was big.

not just 20 miles big... 50 miles in diameter. It was a huge city underground - and we're glad for that.

"Have you ever wondered about the scary creatures Sar?" I asked. stepping out of my apartment building and into the fake sunlight and recycled air.

"No. They give me the creeps. I just hope we never have to come into contact with them." She said.

"Me too." I agreed. "Last night was fun."

"eh..." She said iffy. "I thought it was sort of boring. There was nothing happening at that party. I'm glad I left early. I needed to catch up on my sleep.

"yeah you were getting cranky" I said with a short laugh.

She playfully punched my arm laughing. "Shut up Nick"

We meandered over to the park and sat on a bench but Not the ones that vibrate and dispense a cool air bubble around you. Our Clan has always been more old-fashioned. It's sort of our trade mark. All of the Clans - groups of friends - have one. Of course we still use many modern conveniences; we tend to have fun doing things our ancestors did.

We do this often. We go somewhere, sometimes a coffee shop, sometimes one of our apartments, or this very bench, and we spend hours just talking about random things. Our conversations drifted to many things, including the latest products that were coming out. But today something made me say,

"Do you ever wonder about your past?"

"No. I'm content. So are you Nick." She said easily.

"But what if...there's something else? Something that happened that you should remember...but don't."

"Don't worry Nick the government wouldn't take away any memories that were necessary. They just make life easier. They make life better."

"I guess..." I said unconvinced but I let the matter drop because I saw Ava and Mike walk over to us.

"Ooooo" Mike said, Ava joining in.

"Look at the two love birds!" mike taunted.

Sarah and I both laughed and giggled.

"Shut up." I said half-heartedly.

"What are you two up to?" Ava asked.

"Not much." Sarah replied.

"You guys ready for a bonfire tonight?" Alex yelled jumping over Sarah and my head Surprising us so much that Sarah squeezed my hand...hard.

She loosened her grip, "oh sorry" She giggled.

"It's fine." I leaned over and kissed her.

"ugh. get a room!" Alex complained. "Look; we're all having a bonfire tonight ok? Jack is already aware. I got a hold of him this morning."

Everone murmured their agreement and he said, "Awesome. I found these new things our ancestors cooked over fires. They're called S'mores." He explained.

When he said the word "S'mores" I felt something register in the back of my head...like I knew what they were...but that's impossible

"Didn't they cook everything over fires?" Ava asked.

"Well yeah but they did this for fun." he explained. "Just meet at The Pit at sunset." he said.

S'mores were gooey.

They tasted good and all, but they were hard to eat because the marshmellows were so gooey. Everyone was laughing and having a good time; but i couldn't get over the fact that I had tasted this before.

I moved through the night, not really having too much fun, and eventually just went to my apartment to get some rest. Sarah got on the Talker and i ecepted her convo request.

"Hey Nick. You didn't seem like you had a lot of fun tonight...What's wrong?"

"I'm not sure..." I said staring at the ceiling of my apartment. "Everything was so...peaceful...but know i can't stop thinking about my past and it's ju-"

"Not this again. Why are you so interested in your past Nick?" Sarah asked.

"I guess I just feel like my brain is holding back information that I need to remember."

"Nick, it's alright. This isn't important...don't lose sleep over it ok?

"Ok..." I said reluctantly.

"I...love you." she said.

"I love you too" I cut the connection.

Although I said I wouldn't; I lost a lot of sleep over it that night.
