It was the end of my 1st grade school year on July 11,2009. It was a warm, and sunny evening and everything was perfect... Just perfect.

School had ended and I was just about to walk home from school. It took me awhile to get home but when I did I reached the apartment door and walked in.

The elevator was broken so I had to take the stairs, which was awful By the way because I lived on the 7th floor, I knocked on the door and my Nana opened up.

Fran: Hi Nana, can I help you cook today or did you already make the food? When are my parents gonna get here today? Look at what we did in school today!
Nana: I haven't made dinner yet so you can help me if you like, your parents won't be back until 10:00 - 11:00 P.M. today.

I was use to it my parents were never home it was just my Nana, my brother, and me. The three of us, like the three musketeers. I even started thinking of my Nana as a mother figure to me because she was always there for me when my mom wasn't.

I stepped into the kitchen and got the pots and ingredients ready to start cooking with Nana.

Nana: we going to make rice with beans?
Fran: Yeah, but we're  making black beans because they're my favorite beans!
Nana looks at me and smiles
"Anything for you kiddo!"

After dinner ended I got out my homework and prepared myself for the long hours of work yet to come.
            A few hours later...
I got out of my seat, changed out of my uniform, and went to watch Tv. As always I sat and waited for my parents until they get home.

Hours had passed and finally  my mom gets home. It was about 10:30 at night.

Fran: Mommy! How was work? Do you wanna see what I did today in school? Look I did my homework and Nana and I made rice with black beans because you know how much I love black beans.
Mom: That's nice sweetie, but mommy is tired can we talk tomorrow? I have important news to tell you.
Fran: Ok mommy... Good-

By then my mom was halfway to her room and not paying any attention to a single word I was saying.

I look out the windows into the stars and watch it dance like the rays of the sun so ever bright and begin to yawn.

I set myself to rest as I pondered over the big news my mom had in store for tomorrow.

What was it?
What could it be?
Is it serious?
Did I do something again?

My palms begin to sweat as terrifying thoughts crept into my mind. There was only one thing I could do to put an end to my horrific thoughts.

Sleep.
