"What just happend?" I murmured not expecting to like the answer.
"Umm about that..." He looked away ashamed. "When you went missing we ended up being around each other a lot. We supported each other and got close. Past all the ditzy blonde moments she's really cool. And we may have dated for a while.."
I stared at the road ahead and remained calm. I shouldn't react like any typical girl. That's not what I was trained to do. Emotions are weak making the people who possess them just as fragile. Analyze the situation and respond appropriately.
"How long is a while?" I let the corner of my eye take in the nervous tapping Tyler had taken to doing on the steering wheel.
"A year and a half" he flinched with each word.
A part of me wanted to laugh at the fact he had stayed with her that long and a part wanted to be hurt .
"Oh OK" I shrugged the thought of what kind of things they may have done in that year and a half off and pushed on.
I'm happily surprised I haven't been met with any government officials yet but then again they don't want the public to know there's a threat.
Ha, me the threat. The one they made. Ironic.
We pulled to the apartment complex and proceeded to carry the countless bags inside.
He glanced at his phone and announced he had to go to work.
"I should be home around midnight "
"OK you want me to wait up?" I asked vaguely disappointed I'd be alone tonight.
"Don't worry about it" he smiled and went into his bathroom to get ready.
Where does he even work at ?
Of all things I hadn't even asked about his job...
"Hey you , you all good?" He appeared wearing a uniform of khaki cargo pants and a khaki green shirt that said 'Summit Correctional'
"You work at a prison?" My mouth dropped. Why hadn't I thought of
him working for the state or any form of link between the government and society? Im getting sloppy with my rationalizing and thinking ahead."Yeah not the best job ever but I get to work nights when most everyone's asleep and since I work on a high risk floor it pays well" he smiled a toothy smile and grabbed a hat hanging by the door.
"I'm sure you'll find something in the cabinets you'll like for dinner. See ya later stay safe."
"Shouldnt that be my warning to you?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Nahh they know not to mess with these guns" he flexed his arms to prove his point .
"Ok wow bye " I managed between laughs.
He blew a mock kiss and left.
I set about cleaning up the kitchen which in turn was washing the dishes from the morning then opening the fridge and arranging the food by color and names.
I looked at the clock which read 6:23.
Its going to be a long night....
