the kitchen blues

he was dripping like a saturated dish cloth.

blue and soggy.

eyes swollen like a sponge swelled with water.

he was slippery like the tiles after they had been mopped.

he was hollow like the sink after all the water had been let out down the drain.

his mind echoed like the water pipes.  

he leaked like the run down fridge and creaked like the cracked cupboards.

he was shaky and crocked like the broken dishwasher and cold like the inside of the freezer.

he was sad and alone and lying in a pool of his misery on the kitchen floor.
