CHAPTER ONE

I sat on my bed as my parents yelled in the room next to me on what to do with me, as if I couldn't hear everything they were saying. I was their insane, crazy, delusional, demented, mad, lunatic daughter that they couldn't handle any longer. I wake up at midnight screaming from the night terrors, can't sit in class without a panic attack, and never come out of my room unless I am forced. I guess I was pretty much crazy like they told me constantly.

I sat emotionless as they told me they were very close to sending me to a mental hospital so I "owe" them one cause they are sending me to my dad mom's  for the summer. I looked into my love less mothers, who can never even tell her own daughter she loves her, eyes  and looked at my awful fathers, who cheats on my mom every Saturday and burned my old poems, shoes because I couldn't even give him the respect of looking him in the eyes.

"Pack up your things, you are the next flight to Colorado." They left my room, without me saying a word. I took out my suitcase and packed up all my clothes and makeup. I grabbed my book of new poems that I hid, and my painting bag. I brushed out my long blonde hair that went down to my butt and tied it up into a ponytail for the flight.

My dad drove me to the airport and I just stared out the window to my hometown of Long Beach. I didn't have a lot to miss, except for my friends at school and Sig my cat. We pulled up to the airport and I got out, my dad handed me my ticket and I left before he could even try to hug me.

The flight there wasn't that bad, I slept most of it but woke up to these beautiful mountains. I wrote tons of poems about those mountains on the plane. Mostly because I could tell them wanted to reach past the sky but knew they would only stay in the clouds.

I got off, grabbing my small suitcase of things, looking around for my name because I hadn't seen my grandma since I was born. We never talked to her. She never came to family functions. I walked and looked around for her and finally saw a small sign that said, "Lana (:". I slowly walked up to her and she had a huge smile on her face. She had light gray hair and was wearing a long colorful hippy dress. I liked that she dressed different. My mom and dad only every wore business suits and dull colors. My mom would never let me pick out my own clothes and I despised her for that.

"Hi darling, We are going to have a great summer!" I just looked at her and slightly smiled.

"What's your name again? I'm sorry my parents don't really talk about you much." I said and she made a sad face then became happy again.

"I'm Grandma Lucy, but you can just call me Lucy if you'd like." She smiled and reached for the handle of my suitcase. I let her take it and she walked it to her truck and threw it in the back. I climbed  in the front and we drove to her house in the middle of the most beautiful scenery. We passed a little two story light pink house on the way to her house, in between her little yellow two story house and that pink house was a huge field with little blue flowers. I stared in awe and thought maybe this wasn't that bad but remember that my parents shipped me off across the country.

"This is going to be your room sweetheart." She set my suitcase of this small bed in this bedroom with white trim and painted light purple. I smiled due to the huge window of the huge field view.

"Thank you, Grand- uh I mean Lucy." She smiled and nodded.

"Dinner will be at 5, I'm thinking you'd be hungry after that huge flight. What's your favorite food?" I noticed her rubbing her hands.

"Why do you do that?" I said, staring at her hands.

"Do what?" She stuttered due to the fact I changed the subject.

"Rub your hands like that. Why?"

"Oh I don't know, been doing it since I was little thing! Funny you noticed such a small thing." She looked at me smiling.

"Sorry. I tend to do that a lot. Oh and I like Spaghetti." She walked out and slowly shut the creaky door. I unpacked my clothes and set them neatly into the drawer. After I was down, I noticed it was 5 so I walked down stairs and smelt spaghetti. I smiled when I saw all those food sitting down all for me.

"You are right on time, oh I invited our neighbors because they were very happy to know I was going to be having you here all summer!" I fake smiled and nodded. I didn't want to meet people yet. This was going to be horrible.

I heard a knock on the door and Lucy was startled. "They're here darling!" She opened the door and I could here them greeting each other. Their was two of them. This petite women in her forties I would say came in and shook my hand.

"Hi, I'm Lily and this is Jason." I looked over to a boy that looked a little older than I was, tan with bright blue eyes and deep brown hair. He smiled at me.

"Mom, I think I can introduce myself" He said and leaned down to shake my hand. "I'm Jason."

"I'm Lana."

"Well we are very happy to see you in this little town. You will have a great summer!" Lily said, grabbing some spaghetti and setting it on her plate. I got some next and ate it down. It was amazing.

I kept looking over at Jason, his jaw line was very distinct and he had light dimples. He caught me looking at him and I stared back at my empty plate of food.

"What do you like to do Lana?" Lily said while Lucy got some pie.

"I like art." I said, I hated talking to people. I think it was because I felt so awkward.

"That's cool, Jason likes to write alot." I looked over at him and he made a "shut up" face to his mom. Lucy broke the silence with pie and we all ate, with them talking and me keeping to myself.

"May I be excused?" I wanted to just sleep. I hadn't slept for days even though I would just most likely wake up frightened screaming.

"Sure Darling." Lucy smiled and Lily waved goodbye. Jason just looked up at me, as if I did something really rude.

I climbed into this small bed and sat thinking about how this summer will be. I slowly drifted into sleep.

"What? What?" I woke up with night terrors and Lucy ran into my room. "Oh Darling don't be scared." I shook and was crying.

"I-I'm s-s-sorry. I have night te-r-rors." She looked at me and just pulled my head into her chest.

"Don't be sorry, Want to go watch some movies to get your mind off of it?" I nodded and she lead me into this room with a big tv. She turned on Toy Story and I slowly feel back into a deep sleep on the coach wrapped in her arms. I felt loved for once. I felt safe.
