CHAPTER TWO
I woke up softly to the morning radio and the sweet smell of blueberry pancakes. I stumbled into the kitchen, my eyes still adjusting to the bright morning.
"Good Mornin' darling, I made you breakfast! Hope you enjoy some pancakes and fresh eggs!" She set down a plate of food and a glass of orange juice. I looked at her confused but happy.
"Thanks for helping me last night. Sorry for waking you." I said fast, she came over and took her left hand rubbing my head then kissing it.
"Never be sorry, I am thinking you have had a very har..d.... well just strict life, and thats not how it is here." She just smiled down at me and walked back to get her plate.
I finished breakfast and went back into my bedroom. I grabbed my painting bad and easel and ask Lucy if I could find a spot outside.
I walked down a huge trail, between the huge field of small blue flowers and found me sitting under a huge weeping willow tree, my favorite, and setting up. I tied up my long hair and put on my apron with small paint stain. Looking around trying to find inspiration, I saw this cat walking along the path I walked on and decided to paint just that. It showed the rural of the enviroment but also the sweet touch of nature around it.
Breathing this fresh air, was just so invigorating to my lungs used to the smog of cramped Long Beach. I sat their painting, freeing my mind all the madness and sadness that it took over and just using the brush as my thoughts. I felt a small breeze hit me and so I stood up to stretch my legs.
I slowly sat back down and heard a footstep behind me. "Hello?" I looked around for a response then resumed painting.
"Why are you painting my cat?" a low voice said behind me, making me scream. "Didn't mean to scare you but just saw you painting, staring at my cat soaking the sun, thought I would say hello." I turned to see the boy from last night. I didn't notice how cute he was until now but did note his stalkerish vibe.
"Sorry, I just thought It was a beautiful sceanary. Why are you creeping on me?" He laughed and then sat next to me.
"Well you seem kind of lonely out here and I wasn't creeping, I usually take my daily walk around the countryside before I have lunch." He looked at me and smiled.
"I see, well you can just go ahead and take your walk." I turned my head back to what I was painting. He looked at me one brow raised then stood up.
"How bout you take a break and take a walk with me?" He held out a hand. I thought for a second then thought about how he would realize I was a freak and just make fun of me all through summer.
"Trust me, you don't want to be my friend, there is a reason my parents shipped me out here." He looked at me and then sat down again.
"I would take anyone as my friend. I don't have a lot myself for reasons too." He smiled. Maybe he was like me.
"How old are you?" I asked still painting.
"Just turned 17, and you?"
"16, why don't you have a lot of friends?" He just looked at me like I was crazy.
"If you arn't going to tell me you're reason why should I tell you mine?" He laughed then preceded. "I will tell ya if you come on a walk with me."
I rolled my eyes. This kid just would not let up. Why not, he was a junior, I was a sophomore, maybe this could become a nice friendship for the summer. Nothing more. "Help me up." He pulled me up and I took off the messy apron, leaving my painting stuff right there.
"Okay, where are you taking me?" I said as we climbed over a bunch of trees and logs.
"You'll see, Don't worry my mom doesn't let me go anywhere too far for me." He said, helping me up a cliff. Why would his mom tell him where or where not to go. He was 17 must be a mommas boy.
"Okay we are almost there just over this little cliff and you will see." He pulled me up over this ridge, and I saw the most beautiful scenery ever. I was in awe. The canyons were huge and deep red which made me speechless.
"Wow, this is just." He interupted me mid sentence.
"I know, welcome to Colorado surfer girl." I looked at him and smiled.
"This is a lot better then my crowded city." I just took in everything he was showing me. The light breamed off the canyons and the fields looked at though they went forever.
"Now, tell me why you aint got a lot of friends" His face shined with the high sun on it.
"I don't even know you! Why would I tel a guy I met yesterday why I got shipped to this place."
"Geez, I just thought we could become friends. Friendship always starts with secrets...." He said, nudging me and winking.
"Well I'm Lana, I like to paint and write poetry, and have a cat at home I miss dearly." He looked at me holding in laughter.
He laughed then said, "Ok uh I'm Jason, I like to write stories and such, and I have a dog right over there who's my best friend."
I looked at him and smiled. He turned out to be actually a pretty cool guy. "Well I guess we are friends now." He just winked making me chuckle.
We walked back to where I was painting, and all my stuff was destroyed. "What happened? Oh my god, my painting stuff! No." I went to my jeans and just stared.
"Oh shit It probally was a critter in the forest. Is it all detroyed?" He seemed worried.
"Yeah. It's okay, I will just try to deal with just writing this summer." He looked at me with a thinking face then turned pacing.
"Here let me take you to the art shop, I will buy you new stuff."
"No-o you don't have t-" He cut me off while I insisted not to.
"I insist Lana." When he said my name, butterflies fluttered my stomache. I didn't even like him, I just have never had a boy treat me so sweet. "How about tomorrow around noon?" He smiled.
"Sure." I smiled back and realized that this summer may not be that bad.
