We Without Wings

Stuck on the ground

The clouds dancing above me

The stars dazzling and bright

I lay down on freezing concrete

My eyes wide and envious as I stare up at the sky

The vigorous rhythmic beat carrying them up

Up and down up and down

They rise and rise into the air

They sore, majestic, graceful, beautiful

My eyes fill with tears

They slide down my cheeks as I think

‘How dare you fly? How dare you fly so beautifully?

Why can’t I? Is it not only fair? Birds can sing so beautifully, so can humans, birds can look so beautiful, so can we.

Have they any idea how they make us feel

How jealous

How mad

How sorrowful?

Do they understand how we feel,

We without wings?
