Introduction

"Josie, stop. Please," she whimpered, "I didn't know... I'm telling you I didn't know!"

Silence...

"Please! I'm so sorry! It's going to be okay! You're just thinking about the past again!"

"If you were me you'd do the same..." Josie muttered silently.

Eyes filled with fear and her skin drained to a sickly white as she stood there. Frozen in place. Her leg muscles tightened and her feet dug into the floor. Her breath paced faster and faster, vision growing blurred. Her head felt light as though she was in space. Patricia looked around her to find an escape. The forest trees stood high as towers. Titans of the forest. The ground below her was dead. The leaves faded into ash hues and the leaves were fragile as glass. Crisp to the touch. Crushing like fragile chips in a bag, fear was the flavour. It left a salt taste in her mouth. Josie watched her friend tremble and beg as the night grew on. She could taste the fear in her voice. Patricia looked at her with hot tears running down her cheeks, feet shaking and knees buckled. And then she finally ran away as the crunching of leaves emanated through the forest.

She sat bolt upright and came face to face with the pitch black room. It was still night and the hard heavy bangs of her heartbeat echoed. She woke up from a terrible dream. Her name is Josie Marquis.

Josie was drenched in cold sweat as she slowly became aware of her surroundings. Eyes adjusting to the darkness, she could now make out everything. The choir of a/c hummed in unison and that was all you could hear. She slowly recalled what she dreamt, a gore filled horror, tragedy breaking her heart. Josie closed her eyes slowly and took a moment to calm down.

"It's just a dream... Just a dream..."

The moon sailed across the sky like a ghostly ship, across the sea of stars. She clung tightly to the coverlet and recalled everything. She sunk back into her icy cold bed and shivered. Her hands were soaked in sweat, cheeks stiff from the tears. Soon she fell into a deep sleep and dawn showed itself as the night faded.
