A New Day
Beep Beep Beep Beep!
Her eyelids parted slowly and Josie was welcomed with the overflow of sunshine bursting in her face. The day was a Friday morning and Josie had to go to school. She was looking forward to seeing her best friend, Patricia. Patricia and Josie were best friends since pre-school, nothing could separate them. Along with some of their friends, they went to the same high school. A private high school. Josie rose up and stretched her arms out and yawned. She ran her light beige fingers through her dark brown hair and got off the bed. Josie winced as her bare feet met with the cold hardwood floor.
Today was a new day and Josie planned to make the most of it. The holidays were coming up in a month's time. The chill of the autumn air rushed through her lacy curtains and into the room. The cold air wrapped around her neck like a scarf and Josie opened her eyes widely. She yawned heavily and went to the bathroom to brush her teeth.
She performed her daily routine and went out the door. She calmly jumped into her dad's car and he drove off.
"You barely talked today, hon... Everything alright?" Her father spoke to her.
"Nothing, dad.. Just tired as usual." Josie lied straight through her teeth.
"Try taking a nap sweetie, you'll regain some energy." Her father suggested.
Josie slouched and leaned upon her small shoulder and closed her eyes, deciding to follow the advice.
Crunch! Crunch! Snap! Snap!
The dry underbrush shuffled noisily under Josie's feet as she mindlessly wandered the forest. Josie called out for her friend several times but only silence substituted. She just wanted to make things right. Josie felt her shoulders slump from the bricks on her back. The floor acted like quicksand as her feet sunk into the pits of dead ecosystem below her. She muttered and questioned herself.
"I cannot waste all of my time on someone...Just one person. One"
And with that she sprinted off. And only the sounds of leaves remained behind.
"Wake up! Time to get out now!" Her father chuckled, tapping her shoulder repeatedly.
"Hm?" Josie grunted, instinctively gathering her things and walking out of the car.
The cool icy wind stuffed her lungs and the dry autumn leaves crunched below her feet. Josie shuddered. She tugged her backpack onto her shoulder and walked towards her classroom. Her friends already waiting for her at the corner of the class saw her coming in and they cheered.
"Josie! C'mon over here!" Patricia hollered.
Wince.
Josie gave a smile in return and came towards her peers.
Smile.
"Hey guys! How's it going?" Josie asked cheerfully.
"Well you missed out on a lot." Her friend to her left, Bethany, replied.
Josie took a close look at all of her smiling faces in front of her.
Jason was her childhood friend she knew since they came in school. Best friends. Every time Jason had a problem she'd be his "wingwoman". Jason was the classic brunette, pale skin, rich dark brown eyes. Jason was a tall and fit boy, often taking part in physical activities. He was more into the technological side of things, however. His black hair was always very lush and shiny, porcelain skin stood out fresh. Everyone got lost in his eyes. A deep void sucking you in.
