I pick up the bit of plastic and start pushing it around in my palm.
Why would someone throw it away? What's on it? Maybe they didn't mean to? If I can catch up to them I could give it back.
My attention is pulled away from the object and towards the sky. The rain begins the fall faster and harder and I am forced to squint. I look back down at my hand and stuff it into my pocket, desperate not tho get the stick wet.
I grab my bag and head off to escape the brewing storm, hoping to reach my destination before I get soaked.---------------
I pace down the steps and hit the door with force so it can be heard over the heavy rain.
A few moments later the door is pulled back, slightly, and a pair of piercing blue eyes stare back.
Realization hits her face as she recognizes me.
"What the hell are you doing?" Sally says as I am dragged inside by a hand on my shoulder.
"Surprise!" I say not wanting to go into detail.
Sally rolls her eyes goes in to hug me but stops.
"You're drenched," she says, as if I don't know.
I take off my jumper and place it on the coat stand to dry off.
Sally turns her back and starts walking down the hallway so I take the chance and grap the memory stick from my jumper and put it in my jeans.
I follow after Sally and sit down next to her on the couch.
"Liz and my parents are at this sports ceremony thingy, if you were wondering,"
I can't help but laugh at how little attention she pays towards her family.
"Ceremony thingy?"
"Yeah, I wasn't listening when the told me,"
No shit.
I try to sit more comfortably but stop as I am stabbed in my leg by something in my pocket.
I almost forgot!
"Do you think I can use your computer? My phones dead and I need to check something," I ask, keen yet curious to find out if there is anything interesting on the memory stick.
"Urm.. Yeah, I guess. You know where it is," she says whilst typing away on her phone.
"Cheers,"
I get up and leave making my way towards the computer.
Once I find it I log on - I know her password - and wait for it to load.
I wander what's on it? Is it legal or is it just homework? Probably something really boring like a timetable on when to feed the cat...
I plug it in and am instantly greeted with multiple folders named : price, names, amount, addresses...
What the f...
"Find what you were looking for?" Sally comes in and peers over my shoulder.
I close it down and hope she didn't see anything.
"Yep! Do you mind if I stay the night?" I ask.
"What do you think? You can take Lizzie's bed, she's staying at a a friends after the sport thingy,"
Selective hearing I guess.
"Thanks, I'm gonna go up now I'm so tired,"
She nods and hugs me goodnight.
She knows exactly why I'm here. I tell her everything. I'm really lucky to have a friend like her, I litrelly trust her with my life.
So why aren't you telling her about the memory stick? My subconscious adds.
I don't know really, in case its dangerous. I don't want her getting hurt.
I truge upstairs and fall face down once I reach the right bed. Sally and her sister share rooms so I will probably see her a bit later, knowing I won't be able to sleep.
