The Distance

A month later

   Yes I know... It's a bit of a time skip, but I came up with an idea really late and I'm running with it. Thanks for reading!

          Ren sighed as he finally got to the salon. J.R. had no idea he was getting a hair cut, as far as he knew Ren was only getting some hair dye. Which was to lie, but it wasn't entirely the truth. He sat in the hairdressers chair. She smiled at Ren.

      "What can I do for you Ren? Here for a touch up?" She asked as she leaned against the chair.

        "No, I want to get it cut... Short. And I want it redyed to brown. " He said as he looked in the mirror, playing with his hair. She blinked and was nearly gob smacked.

     "Are you feeling okay? You've never wanted your hair cut short before." She said. Ren nodded and sighed.

     "I'm fine, just trying something new. And if I don't like it... I can always grow it out." He said. "Anyway, I want it short. " he said nodding again. She smiled and nodded.

"Alright let's get your hair washed and let's get to cutting, on the house for the hair wash. " She said.

"You're the best Chaeyoung." He said looking up at her.

"Just call me auntie. It's easier on the tongue (hehe that's what she said)" Ren chuckled and smiled.

"Alright auntie." He said.

-1 hour later-

Ren smiled at himself in the mirror. "Wow.... I look... Hot." He said combing his hand through his hair. Chaeyoung smiled.

"Thank you, I guess you can call me a magician. Cause you look nothing like yourself Rennie." She said smiling. He stood up and hugged her.

   "You really are the best auntie." He said before kissing her cheek and handing her the money. "Here, keep the change." He said before going out and getting in his car and driving to J.R.'s house. He tapped on the steering wheel as he sang to TWICE "OHH-AHH" (You guys need to hear that song if you haven't already it's amazing). He sighed as he heard his phone ring. He turned off the radio and picked it up. "Hello?"

        "Hey Rennie. Could we reschedule us meeting up? I have to stay after work late today... I'll make it up okay?" Ren sighed.

     "Okay..." he said pouting.

    "Rennie don't pout... " J.R. said. Ren chuckled.

     "I'm sorry, it's fine... How about tomorrow?" Ren asked as he took a turn to go back to his house.

      "Yeah that's fine" Ren said and sighed "I love you. I'm gonna go now, I'm driving right now." He said before hanging up.

-Later that night-

      Ren sighed as he walked out the bathroom wiping his face with his towel and taking a deep breath. Then laid on his bed. He closed his eyes and smiled to himself thinking about the look on J.R.'s face when he saw him with his new hair cut. He sighed and blushed covering his hands with his face. Before looking at his ceiling he smiled to himself as he thought about J.R. he rolled onto his side and buried his face in his pillow, giggling to himself. He yawned slightly and smiled before falling asleep.

      Ren woke up to his phone going off and a banging on his door. He groaned and picked up his phone. "It's 4 am why are you calling?" He asked.

      "Ren J.R.'s in the hospital. You need to come now." came Minhyun's voice in a panic. Now Ren was wide awake.

      "He's what?!" He said before getting out of bed and getting dressed. "What happened?" He asked as he grabbed his keys.

       "He was in a car accident. Come now. I'll fill you in with the details." said Minhyun before hanging up. Ren rushed out to his car after slipping his shoes on and got in his car then drove to the hospital, which Minhyun texted him which one afterwards. Once he arrived he asked the nurse where J.R was giving her his full real name. She directed him to the emergency care center. He rushed there and found Minhyun pacing back and forth in the waiting room.

         "What happened where is he?" Ren asked. Minhyun stopped and looked at Ren.

    "He was coming back from work, and some drunk driver hit him. It didn't hit his side of the car, but it still got him pretty bad. It was a hit and run too. They're looking for the driver right now." Minhyun said quickly. Ren nodded his hands shaking and tears on the verge from spilling out of his eyes.

               "O-okay... When can we see him?" asked Ren in a shaky tone. Minhyun sighed me pulled him into a hug. Calming him.

"Soon, he's in surgery right now. From what I understand he needs a few stitches and a few other things. I know Ren... I'm worried about him too. He's been like a brother to me since our parents go married." He said as he let Ren cry into his shoulder. Soon Ren calmed down and sat down after a bit.

-Several hours later-

     Soon nurses came out and motioned Ren and Minhyun into the room. J.R. was laying back with his eyes closed and tube around his face right under his nose to help him breath. Ren hurried to his side and fell to his knees next to his bed gripping his hand tightly. He cried silently into the bed as he held J.R.'s hand. The nurse sighed and looked at her clipboard with J.R.'s information. "He's under some heavy pain medication, he should be awake in a few hours soon. You can stay the night, visiting hours are very flexible here..." She said. She walked over to Ren and patted his shoulder. "You've got yourself a warrior, he had some problems but he fought through it. It seems he's got something he really wants to hold onto." She said before walking out of the room. Minhyun sighed and walked over to grab a chair from a corner in the room. He nudged Ren lightly as he set the chair down.

         "Ren, come on. Sit in a chair at least. Get comfortable I know you want to stay here for the night." said Minhyun, as he helped Ren up. He slid the chair close to J.R.'s bed and let Ren sit down. Ren laid down holding J.R.'s hand and fell asleep shortly after, Minhyun following suit on the small couch across from Ren and to the right of J.R.'s bed.
