Chapter five

Myself and Luke reached the bottom of the narrow path leading up to the small cottage at the top of the hill.

"here we go" i said as i took the first step onto the track ahead it didn't look that far to the cottage. I was wrong. Two hours passed before we finally reached the top

"dear god" Luke said out of breath, he leaned onto a large boulder to catch his breath.

"hurry up, were here now" i said while moving myself towards the cottage door. Its wooden door was painted a friendly blue colour,I breathed in the mountain air and raised my hand and knocked on the door. We waited. Nothing.

"oh well they're not in never mind" Luke said beginning to turn back

"no stay here" i said slamming my fists against the door once more.

A noise of footsteps coming towards the door became louder. Suddenly the door was opened.

"can i help you?" a skinny woman said. She had long brown hair that was curled ever so naturally, her face looked tired.

"e-erm im looking for.. Kier?" i said nervously

"how do you know Kier?" she asked suspiciously, she leaned on the door frame examining our faces. Her apron was torn.

"were just old friends" Luke said jumping in

The woman who i assumed was Maria turned round to face the inside of her house

"KIER!" she shouted

"what?!" a voice from inside said

"you have visitors" she said and then walked inside leaving us stood outside waiting for Kier

Kier appeared at the door looking very tired, his makeup ran down his cheeks contrasting with the paleness of his face. His read fringe was pushed to one side. He rubbed his eyes and rose his head. He saw our faces and recognised us immediately, he began to attempt to slam the door, Luke's foot caught the door in full swing.Kier panicked and then asked

"What what do you want?!"

"calm down were not here to hurt you we just want to talk" i said as the lies rolled off my tongue like it was the most natural thing.

Kier stepped outside and began walking towards the boulder,he climbed on top of it and sat crossed legged and looked at us both.

"what." he said rudely

maybe if hes this rude to me i wont feel bad for bringing him back to the leader.

"Kier you need to go back" Luke said calmly

"why the hell should i go back?! if i do I'm going to be killed!" Kier said with anger

"Kier the leaders not going to kill you..."i lied and continued " he has sent us to come and fetch you, he cares about you. he knows what he has done is wrong and he feels awful for scaring you off"

Kiers eyes came in contact with mine, and in that moment i regretted what i had said.

"really?" Kier said climbing off the rock, his eyes filled with hope

"you can trust me" i said. "just come with us, we will catch the p train back to the house and he can look after you again"

"ok then one moment" Kier walked inside the cottage

"wow, you're a natural" luke said while patting me on the back

"don't Luke." i said turning away from him

"what? we got the boy right? that means our lives are no longer in danger"

"yes but we are just leading him to his grave now, Luke hes only young" i said turning back to face him

"are you sure hes only young? i mean yes his face looks like a pubescent boy, but that boy has more chest hair than both of us put together" Luke chuckled

Kier emerged from the cottage door in a different change of clothes and his makeup redone, his hair had been combed and he looked better than when we saw him five minuets ago.

"lets go then" Kier said leading the way down the hill towards the streets of the city. The streets from this view looked busier than before.

But now my conscience had stepped in and all i could think about was how we were leading this boy to his death.
