Attempting to get home

Chapter six

Arriving at the bottom of the hill was a relief, after two hours of walking down it,it was nice to finally sit down. I sat on a bench placed at the bottom of the hill Luke sat beside me. Kier stood in front of us looking around.

"we cant stay here long" Kier said worriedly

"and why's that?" i asked

" i e-erm, stole something, they're probably looking for me" kier said while scanning his surroundings

"yes we know" Luke said while standing up and placing his bag over his shoulder

Luke began walking and i followed,Kier stood for a few seconds confused but finally began to follow us, the fog had still not passed, but the city looked much busier than before, more life.We passed the brothel, i had hoped i would never see it again. The large woman stood in the doorway with a man in her arms, she smiled as she recognised our faces. I hurried along trying not to get distracted. Kier caught the attention of many women in the city, this was just wasting time,he was clearly enjoying the attention, he playfully occasionally winked. This made the women giggle, i had no time for this.

"im hungry" kier whined

"here have these" i reached into Luke's bag retrieving the bread rolls from earlier, i handed them over.Kier bit into them like he had never seen food before. Kier was falling behind, i turned around and he was talking to a rather attractive woman.

"oh for god sake" i sighed

"what?" Luke said turning round "oh right"

"go and get him were going to miss the train" i said

Luke walked towards the woman and Kier, i looked around.This really was a grand city,despite the odd flaws it had,i wish i had spent more of my life here, learning, buying, meeting new people.Ive just been too wrapped up in this whole cult thing Ive forgotten to live my own life,and now Im stopping someone else living their life. He was too young to die. All he did was talk about the group outside the cult, but the leader said he had information he wasn't supposed to know? maybe he had done something else wrong maybe if i knew i wouldn't feel as bad for doing this.

I looked up.

"oh for god sake" i said Luke was now acting as Kiers wing man on wooing the attractive woman,i walked over and grabbed them both by their collars

"were going to miss this bloody train" i said while storming off Luke and kier laughed and the finally followed me,the terraced housed in the streets towered above us and the narrow streets where quite unnerving.Finally we reached the train station. It was almost time.

We waited on the platform for the P train to arrive, i glanced at my watch "twenty minuets late" i muttered under my breath.

"where the hell is this motherfucking p train" Luke yelled slamming his bag onto the floor

The crash of the bag hitting the platform startled kier and made him jump.Why was it so late? yes we still had a day to find kier and bring him back but i just wanted this awful business done with, i didn't want to drag it out. I walked over to a man in uniform.

"excuse me but could you tell me when the p train is arriving?" i asked

"oh I'm sorry sir, todays train has been canceled the last one was an hour ago" he said and then walked away from me

"ugh" i turned back to face Luke and kier who were sat down on the benches

"no train today, were going to have to sleep somewhere tonight" i said walking towards the streets again, it was getting dark.

"the brothel"Luke asked with a grin

"no Luke i swear to god im not setting foot in that whore house again" i said with anger. i wasn't sleeping there again.

"were going to have to" Luke said setting off towards the shady looking building just down the street, kiers eyes lit up at the thought of being around more women.

"fine, but please don't spend any more money on alcohol, and don't be renting out any women" i said following him. Luke led the way Kier noticed i was day dreaming.

"whats wrong" he asked

"nothing" i replied bluntly

"well there clearly is, its barrone isn't it?" he asked

"yes why,how do you know?" i said turning to face him

"i know drew! he talks about you all the time, he says youre an amazing artist" he said still following luke

"oh you know drew,aha hes one of my best friends...small world."

we reached the familiar looking adult house i exhaled and followed luke inside the warm atmosphere and loud chatter of drunken people was unnerving. Luke headed towards the bar, cherry ann stood behind it cleaning one of her many beer glasses. Luke was clearly clueless on what he was asking for so he just asked for a drink, i tugged at his arm.

"we dont have enough money for this"

he lifted his shoe and pulled out a roll of notes that had been hidden, and winked.I leaned over the bar,to face cherry ann, she served Luke his drink and turned to face me.

"and what can i get you two lovely looking boys?" she smiled

Kier grinned at the compliment from the woman

"could we rent a room again for the night?" i asked

"of course, room seven is occupied, so room eight it is" she walked over to grab the key for the room and placed it in my hand.

"how much will that be?"i asked

"only £15 hunny" she said smiling

"oh right" i said shocked by the low price, Kiers boy like charms had clearly won her over. I walked over to Luke,

"its room eight by the way when you're quite finished" i said

Luke nodded and carried on drinking with a large breasted woman in one arm, i half expected kier to join him in his antics but he followed me up the stairs along the corridor to room eight, i jammed the key into the hole and turned, i wasn't expecting much. The door opened and the smell of sweat greeted us.Kiers face dropped as he saw the room in front of us.

"ew" he said while walking inside

"i know" i said laughing, i walked over to a bed placed in the far right corner, i sat on the side. Kier closed the door and sat on his bed on the opposite side of the room

He looked me deep in the eyes from across the room,he knew something wasn't right. The silence was deafening.

"everyones going to be mad at me barrone" kier said quietly while lying onto his bed

"whys that" i asked

"because of what i did,i didn't mean to it was an accident" he said turning over to face the wall

"everyone makes mistakes kier" i said "some bigger than others" i whispered

"it wasn't my fault,my mum was worried why i was spending some much time away from home, i needed to tell her what i was doing. When she found out she was furious, My father was in the same cult. And he was killed for the same reason. He told me lots of information about the workings of the leader, after he was killed i was forced out onto the streets, my mother couldn't provide for me, the leader came looking for me he could either kill me or take me in. And he chose to take me in" kier said

"its ok kier, you haven't done anything wrong, you did what any human would have done, the leader is fine with it, he knows you just ran off because you were scared hes worried about you" the lies slipped off my tongue like liquid.

kier turned to face me

"thank you barrone" he said and pulled the torn blankets over his body and closed his eyes his makeup in the moonlight made it seem like his eye sockets were hollow.

i lay down,and regretted every action i had made today, oh god what was i doing
