1.Rebecca's POV
Sitting in the front of the class beside my best friend Jamie was an everyday routine. My pencils organized from sharpest to dullest and my hair held back in a tight, gelled pony tail.
I clasped my hands on my desk as Jamie read over my homework, for any possible errors that escaped my judgement.
"All good." He smiled tightly as his braces pressed against his lips, his nose crinkled under his glasses that were too narrow for his round face.
Jamie and I met in freshman year, we both sat at the same empty table in the cafeteria with our pre-packed lunches, neither of us had yet to make any other friends as we are both fairly awkward, but conversation was easy for us from the start.
We were connected instantly.
We were finally in our last year of High school, Jamie and I have already begun University applications and obviously we picked the same schools.
"Thank you." I smiled back at him, placing the homework sheet neatly on my desk before smiling up at the front.
"Could you all take out your homework so we can begin class?" Mrs. Walloway announced, her hands neatly clasped together as she looked toward the class with a smile.
She waited a moment before walking around to collect the assigned work.
"What did you do this weekend?" Jamie asked as Mrs. Walloway moved her way around the classroom.
"I didn't do much honestly, finally finished that book series I've been obsessed with."
"You mean the series with six novels? You started that a month ago. You need to relax." His eyebrow had cocked slightly above his glasses frame, his mouth a bit ajar as a smirk took up his face.
"I like to read!" I rolled my eyes at him, "Don't you finish a video game once a week anyway?" He rolled his eyes back at me but the teacher interrupted before he could retort.
"Ok class." Mrs. Walloway spoke loudly, shushing the room. I sat up straight and flattened my skirt against my knees.
"Today we're going to be starting a project." She smiled tightly, "It is something we are going to be working on over the next month and will be a vital grade for this class." She puttered about her desk for a moment before finding her marker for the white board, in bold lettering she writes out:
Combined and Collaborative Learning
"Collaborative learning is vital for success in any secondary school program, job or anything you pursue in your life after Highschool. Being able to work with people is so important in your successes in life, and very fruitful for your personal growth into adulthood."
"For this assignment, you will be grouped up in twos or threes and will have to choose a social or behavioural issue given by me. You will have to work together to research and formulate a three page essay and physical presentation to be presented to the class. You will have to delegate each others strengths and weaknesses when assessing who does what and compromise on each others ideas for the project."
"Are there any questions?"
"We get to choose who right?" One of the kids in the middle row asked, as Mrs. Walloway nodded her head again "If you'd like." She smiled.
The classroom instantly began to chatter and choose who they wanted in their group, Jamie and I shared a look of knowing and waited for our teacher to continue.
"Ok, silence." She snapped causing all the excited tones to become hushed. "Please take one rubric and pass it back until everyone has one. I will be writing out the topics of choice on the board in the meantime. Choose wisely."
