When Alex regained consciousness, he was somewhat aware of the sudden hushed silence that enveloped the room. A head came into view, hovering above his. "Hey Cub."
"Hi." Alex rasped out weakly, making the entire unit cringe - yes that includes Wolf. Alex blinked, trying to clear away the blurriness. "How are you feeling?" Eagle asked, all his playfulness gone and replaced by a serious and caring brotherly affection.
"Fine, but probably because of the morphine." Alex said, his voice still harsh and barely louder than a whisper. He tried to sit up but Snake pushed him back down gently, not wanting him to over exerted himself. Ben returned with a doctor who checked him over and deemed he is able to be discharged in a few days. "What happened?" Alex asked, wanting to know how he got to St. Dominic's. Wolf was the one who started telling him the incident. They had apparently been sent to retrieve a body of an agent because the tracker only activates when the heartbeat of their agent dropped to a certain point and seeming like they were going to flatline. They had already reached the agent's location and found the body on the ground but Snake being a medic still checked for pulse. He found a weak and dying pulse before it completely disappeared. He had wasted no time into gently but efficiently flipping the agent to his front. They had been very shock when they found out the agent was Alex. Snake had performed CPR, panicking whenever a rib moved under the pressure and threatened to puncture the kid's lungs. Luckily none had punctured his lungs and they managed to bring him back with a few bullet wounds, having lost a lot of blood and suffering severe hypothermia.
In a few days, Alex was checked by the doctor and finally released. He wasn't suppose to do any heavy duty or go in any mission but I doubt MI6 cares. Alex changed into the clothes that Ben had brought over from his own house where the kid has left a few sets of clothing for just incases. He limped out and was immediately flanked by K-unit. Eagle and Ben on either side of him, Wolf infront of him slightly of centre, snake lagging slightly behind. They had fallen into a formation to protect his 360 without even thinking, it has become instincts and it had came with their brotherly affection for him. Eagle and Ben both stood on either sides to protect his sides and they stood close to catch him if his legs suddenly gave out on him.
Alex was leaning on Eagle slightly whilst they were waiting for the crossing lights to turn green to indicate that it was safe to cross, tired from the short walk to the carpark. Eagle looked over and had noticed he looked pale and weary. He bent over and scooped Alex up gently, not too quickly incase he made him dizzy - generally being very careful and treating him like glass that would break without warning. Alex noticed his hair dye was washing off, showing strands of blond brown hair throughout the pastel purple. He looked across and almost flinched when he saw his family again. Ian and John, this time, had spared him a glance before looking away not even bothering to study him thinking that they have mistakenly saw someone else as their Alex. The said boy suddenly felt lightheaded and sad, very very sad. Alex rested his head on Eagle's broad shoulder and fell asleep soon after.
When he came to, he was back in his own room with a note on the table dressed to him from K-unit. They said they were leaving for a bit and will be back soon. Alex soundlessly slipped out of bed and down stairs into the kitchen. He brewed a cup of coffee for himself and sat at the table, staring into space. Would they want anything to do with me? Probably not. If they did, they would have looked for me... Alex mused. He was slipping a little deeper into his depression each day but he refuse to let it show. Nobody needs to know, I do not need to burden them with my problems when they have their own. He always thinks he is a burden, not believing anyone who says he is not. Alex chewed on his thumb, not biting his nails but biting his actual flesh and nail together. It was a habitual thing that he do way before StormBreaker but before StormBreaker, he did it when he was nervous. Now he do it to occupy himself and hope that the pain would distract himself into not thinking about bad things. Alex sighed frustratedly before reaching behind himself to grab his gun from his waistband. He stripped the gun to the smallest components and started cleaning each part one by one then assembled the gun back in the quickest timing he can manage. Usually a cleaning of his gun would calm him down enough that he can shove whatever that was troubling him into the back of his mind or he would have figured out the solution during the entire cleaning process. But no! He can't shove the problem to the back of his mind nor could he figure out what to do with the question of whether his family actually loved him.
The question was killing him.
